My husband and I are planning to move to Nicaragua in the next 3-4 years. We are coming down just for a vacation the week of 1/25/15. We will be in SJDS the beginning of the week and Granada on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at the end of the week. If any expats would be willing to get together and share your experience, we would absolutely love it!

In San Juan, you might drop by the El Dorado on the beach road, which generally is populated with people who like it there just fine. Then stop by Big Wave Dave's, which swarms for some reason with pessimists. Your mileage may vary.

novato1953 - Ha ha I wonder why "Big Wave Dave's, which swarms for some reason with pessimists"
Probably is not that bad if.....

You forgot to mention if you want to be a somebody El Gato Negro coffee shop is a must. Actually you can be a nobody too. Probably the best place to meet expats & talk.
Ask there AM for Kelvin who owns a good source of info:

Republika & Cha Cha Cha are two more like Dorados that have a few of the friendly "mature" crowd around.
Henry's Iguana in the mornings for breakfast sometimes is OK for expat discussions too before the kids swarm in later.

Facebook group "Expats in San Juan del Sur" sometimes has announcements of what is going on and is the best place to get an idea of apartment/house rentals & prices.

Don't pet the monkey! ;-)

OMG - the woman with the monkey! I totally forgot about her! We were in SJDS a few trips ago and saw her!

My wife and I are also thinking of moving to San Juan Del Sur in a couple of years. We've never been. How did your trip go? Is live to hear your thoughts on the place.
