I will be coming to Leon June 15th-July 10th and am looking for affordable housing near the TEFL academy and University. Any affordable housing recommendations out there? Thanks!

There's a long time poster on TRN who lives in Leon with his Nica wife and extended family.
Sharp guy, and always willing to help.

There are many offers "Se alquila" for houses - many for about 300-400$.
If you are a student with a very low budget, you will also find "habitaciones" (rooms to rent) for students.

I recommend you to rent a room in a hostel for a few nights, walk around in town and ask the owners directly. There are many posters "Se alquila" on the doors of the houses, but these do not appear on any website.
And real estate agencies take care of long-term rentals - 2 months are not very lucrative for them.

Ditto on what Salsera said. Also, most language schools have contacts with people who will rent out rooms for students. These homestays may end up the most economical route, although may be lacking in pricy and comfort.
As always, affordable is an elastic concept. A hospedaje could probably put you up for $10 pp per night till you get your bearings. A room or homestay would be better for the 2 months. A mif range hotel for $25 a night would be the far end of ``affordable``.

I live four doors down the street from TEFL at the doctors house. I pay $180 a month and it comes with a private room and bath. I just graduated from TEFL on Jan 30th but have been here since Dec. 11.
I have access to kitchen and can come and go as I wish. It is safe and secure. Jon set it up for me and I am very happy to here.

Also, look around the ITA Nicaragua Alumni pages. Maybe you can find one of your classmates to split a room with.
