I have been in the heating, cooling, and refrigeration trade for 18 years in Kansas. I have been thinking of moving to Nicaragua. My question is ... Is there a need for commercial refrigeration and or A/C repair service man? I can't find anything on the web on this. I only found one thing on this site about someone that couldn't find a good plumber.

Hi JamesA, will have to keep tabs on you if you do. I should be in Nicaragua in about 18 months myself. The trade you are in is a good one. I was trained in the basics as a union pipefitter/welder and always enjoyed it. I believe a growing country will always need HVAC skills, but have not been to Nicaragua yet. MagicJack seems to be a great fountain of knowledge as he has lived there awhile with his feet on the ground without his head being in the clouds.

Look on the expats of Granada facebook page. At the very beginning is a posting about finding workers and/or repairmen, it is always the first thing. Click on it and you will find comments about workers. It might have something. There are many facebook pages about NIcaragua, that is where people post this sort of information, good and bad.

People in Nicaland fix things, there are locals to call. You will have local competition.
The Nica repairmen we have dealt with are excellent and not very expensive. People, including or especially expats want very low cost services. One hundred cords is considered good pay for a local repairman. There are currently 27 cords to the US dollar. You will have to speak good Spanish because you will have to deal with local suppliers.

There is a gentlemen on www.therealnicaragua.com named something with John Wayne in it and he is a commercial refrigeration person. He has lived here a long time and would probably know mucho and he isn't shy. You can join the site and send him a message. He posts all the time, if you follow new posts for a few days he will come up.
