Problems with "Airport Transfer Tourist Transport" Company

We operate a new hotel less than a mile from the airport. Round trip it is 2 miles. On 3 occasions over the last 2 months, some guests-- not knowing how far the hotel is-- have been duped into agreeing to pay between $40 (for a car) and $50-60 (once for a car and once for a van) for this 3 minute drive using "Airport Transfer Tourist Transport"

While the taxis try to overcharge foreigners coming on the 3 minute ride by asking for $10-15 when it should be $5 or even less, charging $40-60 is simply criminal for a three minute ride even if its a group and they need a van.

We're preparing a formal complaint to EAAI (airport management), INTUR, and the airport police. If anyone has had any similar experiences with this company (not the taxis but the new van booths), please let us know.

We're going to be filing a formal complaint with the EAAI (airport), INTUR, etc. and would be interested to know if others have had similar experiences with them.

Good luck with your complaints. Keep us posted on the results...I am not sure you will get much, but who knows. What thy are doing is not against the law. Be a good idea to post a note on your website about it (this also reinforces the fact of how close you are, which is a plus for airport travelers) and also to inform those who have booked...like with their conformation note that you are close and should be 5-10 bucks...and of the rip off company by name.

Hello
We stayed at your hotel on Oct 25 and had a similar experience. The cab driver took us to the Hex hotel and charged us $25.00. I questioned the taxi driver but he wouldn't listen. They were in a big hurry to get everyone into a taxi and didn't try to listen.

That is why you set the price before you take the trip. Not just from the airport to this hotel, but anytime. If cabbie is too busy, wait for another...there are always plenty there and at the end of the rush some are left with no fares...so 10 minutes and you be in the bargaining position.

Sorry to hear that the taxi confused us with Hotel Hex. When we first opened, most taxis didn't know where to go even though we stopped at the yellow and blue shirt taxis and talked to them a couple times.

Now we have a sign on Carretera Norte and the C.N. entrance wall to Residencial Montecristi is painted with the hotel name as well. As soon as the electric company installs a meter, the sign will be lit as well.

While $25 to Hotel Hex is certainly steep, and the taxi should have let you clarify, this "Airport Transfer Tourist Transport" company knew exactly where it was and charged the clients $50 for a 1.,5 k.m. trip. Just a week before the same guys charged a client $60.

We recognize people need to make money, and there are expenses for these guys, but a three minute ride is a three minute ride.
