Hi all,
how is the weather in Masaya compared to Granada ? I hear it gets very hot in Granada. Also is it just as safe as other places in Nicaragua ?

Its all a matter of elevation. google in ^^climate map of Nicaragua^^. all the green stuff is hot and sticky, Masaya included.
The mountains south of mga and in norcentro are cooler once you get up to about 1300 meters.
Nic. is different than most of CA in that all the major cities are in the hot sticky.

Check the altitudes. Low is hot. Granada, Leon, Managua are low & hot. Masaya is hot.
As we used to say in college bs sessions, define your terms. How hot can you stand? To snowbirds all shades of hot are good. Others of us are more discriminating. Esteli is 888 m altitude = cool & pleasant. JinoTEPE is 500+ = cool & pleasant.
El Crucero is 900 & very close to MGA, but there is nothing there!

Thank you for the great info on the different locations.

Great info and I did look it up as you say, thanks !

Also, as you go east the weather is more humid and there is more greenery. The segovias are generally hot and dusty for their elevation. As you go inland it is less so, even at the same elevation.

A very general rule of thumb is roughly a 4ºF decrease in temperature per 1000' elevation.

I live on Ometepe in a very small town and safety is absolutely no concern. Last year my wife decided she wanted to live in Granada where she grew up but hadn't lived there in 40 years.

I detest cities but gamely went along. It felt completely safe during the day but a little shady at night. Our neighbors constantly badgered us to be more careful, lock the doors at all times, never walk at night etc but I can't live like that. We never had any problems but were not there very long. Very hot there in August and September with little breeze and none at all in the closed courtyard.

Thankfully after two months my wife had to admit it had changed over the years and came back to the island..

The only thing I miss is having La Union and La Colonia within easy walking distance.

Good news, yesterday the police arrested suspects for robbing the house of a member of our extended family on Christmas eve in Esteli.
Seems the bums also robbed a church in their own barrio, which brought them to the attention of the police.

Great news!

With luck you should be able to buy some of the items back from the police :)

What an assinine statement. But considering the source…from a non-expat wannabe giving expat type advice…a poser in the jargon the the skateboard crowd.

Remember…you are still on truth and non-BS probation. There is still much to be revealed and chucked over from you other posts….a coupe of guys from TRN and I were talking about you yesterday….they have some real gems. Basically STFU on stuff you do not know about…like this. People are watching your...but not not in the way you want them too.

Perhaps I simply don't understand your manner of communication, as in,, we use words differently??

"non-expat wannabe" doesn't make much sense describing a guy who owns a working farm, and rents a house in Estelí, and has owned the farm six years . .

"poser in the jargon the the skateboard crowd" has to be either the medication or the FDc talking,, or maybe the both ??

I'm driving down again in March with my new son, three weeks tomorrow, and a perfect hombrecito.

Perhaps I can bring you some medication that you can't find in Nicaragua?? But, then you wouldn't be as much fun if you were in complete control of your mind.

It's good to know that I'm on "truth and non-BS probation", and not going to be incarcerated as I cross the border.

One problem we all have is, your rants are so illiterate that it's hard to know what you are talking about much of the time:

"People are watching your . . but not in the way you want them too. . "
Watching me,, watching my butt, what ?? And why the use of "too", instead of "to" ? Is this simply your personal variation on English, or is there some secret code we don't understand?? Or, is it just the FDC talking??

Enquiring minds want to know --or,, maybe not.

Are you absolutely sure that you are not that fat lesbian from Jinotega trolling? You two have too much in common in terms of literary style for these posts to be coincidental.

It's a beautiful sunny day in Tucson, and you've made my day, as usual. I'm headed to the spa, with a smile on my face. A soak in water maintained crystal clear with a perfect temp of 102 F.

La Vida Buena!

So tell me Poser Pyrite...probation has been indefinitly extended due to your pathology. Is the "son" you are bringing down from one of your wads, or is it the one she said was yours but you declaim but still want to help (oh isn't he nice Molly) as you were tapping her while you knew you could not shoot a true load...you understand of course that you were going in a a wet deck...uggg. But what the heck...all in good fun and what does a wife beater care. Don't sputter...compose a good answer...me and you TRN compadres have a bet on how much BS you will embroider into this. Of course, when you get here you can always have the corrupt (your definition) Nica cops help you out......weave that in.

Redundant post:

Someone needs his lithium

Tommy the Hawk...suggestive of a I am real man handle...and might be you are...but as a member of the Poser's Posse, I doubt you are sharp enough to be anything but a dull blade let alone a real man's Tomahawk.

Fact is you guys in Poser's Posse are all pretty dull...not even worth it to write to.......that's why you get your rocks off on the Pyrites BS.....EZ reading for another wannabe. Why don't you get the Pyrite to tell you about his Keywester days..huh...he never been there enough to claim even a part of the handle....let alone the Pirate part...another wannabe fiction to bolster the image.

Lithium, Tona, FDC..man read a bit and be creative..or at least original (you know, think for yourself) or I am going to give up on you all.

This is my donation to the Pyrite's therapy....having come to grips with his own reality. You are welcome.

I was in Key West a little over three years, Had an oceanfront compound on Geiger Key with my Beneteau tied in front.

Shelley graduated nursing school there, Key West Community College.

Great years! But, NOT a place to retire to unless you are filthy rich. And, hard to get to. I was spending three days/week on a plane in those days. I really hated missing that last plane home at night.

Eclectic crowd, something new and different every night. A must visit place, A good time to go is during Fantasy Fest, KW's take-off on Halloween.

No prob, didn't even notice till you pointed it out. Best wishes and hope you find a place you like.

While I didn't care for Granada (I'm very much a country boy') the reasons I don't like the city are the same ones that people who live there love about it.
