Where to buy fruit trees and ornamental plants

I am starting a citrus farm in Chinandega and I needed 800 citrus trees, 200 avocado trees and some misc. ornamental shrubs/bushes/flowers. After getting the usual gringo price run around, I finally found a young man named Saul in Catarina who has a very nice nursery near the entrance of Catarina. He delivered all of my order at a price of about 40% less than the bozos and rip off artists who had quoted me prices. The deal went seamlessly and as agreed to. I could not be more pleased. If any of you need fruit trees, ornamentals, or flowers, Saul is your man. He can be reached by Movistar at 7817 7995

Hola! I am a member and find so many helpful ideas here. Grateful you posted about fruit trees. We have a small finca near Leon and want to purchase large trees to plant around our house for shade. We would love almendros if they are 5-6 feet. Did Don Saul have anything like this?
Gracias and buena suerte en la finca frutal! We will come to buy when ready! ;)

Just because you get a lower price from someone does not make them bozos and rip off artists. Aren't you the holy roller? Not a real nice example.

Don Atz, let's have some empathy. NOBODY like to be taken advantage of when purchasing things in another country just because we are not native. Some people use words and name calling to get our frustrations out. I doubt if this was a direct insult at any particular person. Relax! ;) It's time to be grateful!

But he was not taken advantage of...they lost the sale and he went elsewhere...that happens all the time buying stuff where there is not sticker price...like plants. Moreover, he nor you know the high price he was quoted was not sikmeilare to the price quoted Nicaraguans...he and you just assume so which is a sign you are really not integrated into living here...always blame it on the gringo haters. I am relaxed..it is he that is not.

Would you mind sharing a bit of detail?

Pricing, size of the trees?

Thanks!

I did not really look at anything but fruit trees so I don't know if he had what you are looking for. Give him a call and I am sure he can help you.

Different folks for different folks.

"Gringo pricing" has never been a big factor in my life here. Once you get away from the border and certain tourist zones, it is mostly internet hype.

Prices vary depending on "what the customer will bear",( which applies to middle class Nicas too) the judgement of the individual seller, and the position of the sun, moon , and stars on a given day.

Once you get away from the chain stores and deal will small timers you are often dealing with employees with no authority or experience to deal with large or strange orders. It all then falls onto the absentee boss, or an employee who is completely faking it, more worried about angering the boss than losing a sale the boss will never know about.

Generally, I have found people glad to make a sale and who don't have time to dream up a "gringo price".

Yes, at times I may have paid too much, but it was more a matter or being in too big a hurry and not shopping around or not negotiating enough.

Go on ebay and see the same new identical thing listed at prices of "x" up to "3x" or more. Yes, they are opportunists at the "3x" price, but nobody has a gun to your head to buy from them. Watch people bid up an item to a higher price than on an identical "Buy now" price!

Also, in Nic. bargaining for price is a gentle, slow art, not a machetazo. If you are in a hurry you will screw yourself.
