Does anyone have any information on sport fishing opportunities both salt and freshwater?

Not sure I understand what you have in mind. Are you looking for a guide? Do you want to charter a boat?

I like all types of fishing and I have both freshwater and saltwater tackle here in Nicaragua. I am having a hard time finding good places to go, competent guides and other people to go with. I live in Chinandega. I have been to Bluefields and fished with Randy Poteet at Rumble in the Jungle and it was great.....just a little far away to go on a regular basis. I have hired several guides in the Padre Ramos-Corinto area but they were unable to put me on any good fish. Same thing at the lake in Jinotega.

Hello, from Bluefields you can go fishing in rivers and lagoons. In Karawala and Sandy bay, is famous for big tarpon. And you can also fish in manawar keys.
Martin fishing offer tours, but if you have your equipment you can rent a boat in Bluefields.

I have a couple of 11 foot surf rods that we use to surf-fish off the beach. Can easily find little red snapper holes with them and get into a bigger fish that is passing by. I've seen guys catch Roosterfish (not good for eating) off the beach as well as tuna.

We also just hire a local panga in our town for cheap and go out in search of Mahi Mahi when the season is right, let me know if you ever make it down to Puerto Sandino/Miramar area and we can try and catch something.

I've been fishing out of Casares with the same family for five years. Using rapala magnums we troll for whatever is in the water, usually catching big mackerel and Crevalle jack, but occasionally barracuda, rooster fish, white tuna, and (once) sail fish that follow the schools (cardumen, locally called manchas) of bait fish in shore. We go very early, just after day break, and are off the water by mid-morning. Lots of inexpensive fun.

Dalepues,

How far out do you usually go to troll with those rapalas? I'm buying a kayak and will attach a small trolling rod off the back, but don't want to head out too far....thanks in advance.
