Well, dogs don't sweat so the heavier coat might be an advantage in keeping the ambient heat from their bodies.
Pigs don't sweat either.
I just put a machete into the back of a pit bull yesterday afternoon. I came back from a chore and found him trying to get into my chicken pen.
This particular dog has a rep for eating chickens. I lost two of a previous batch that I allowed to range, probably to him. He was seen grabbing a chicken from one of my neighbors and running with it.
I felt the machete strike bone so he's going to be one sore puppy for a couple of weeks. I doubt that he will come back,,, but if he does,, I won't be so generous next time.
I agree, it's not the breed, 100%, it's how the dog is raised as well. The majority of the campo dogs are skinny and hungry all the time but know not to bother the chickens.
