seeking Nicaragua attorney for assistance with Nica passport

Hi, I am seeking a Nicaraguan attorney with experience with Nicaragua Immigration. My wife is Nicaraguan and we are attempting to obtain a Nicaraguan passport for her daughter (my step-daughter) so that her daughter who is 6 years old can obtain a visa to enter and live in the US with us. It would be helpful (but not absolutely required) if this attorney speaks English. Thanks for any assistance and advice - please contact me at: [email protected]

i would be interested in someone like this too,,, we have the opposite problem,,, a US citizen one year old who need Nica documentation.

His mother is in the US, his birth certificate (Arizona) claims the father is no conocido, but we have custody paperwork.

Paul Tiffer..MGA lawyer....good, speaks English and does a lot of immigration work. Worked on some of my stuff.

Patricia Sanchez..not a lawyer but used to work in immigration...she does a lot of residency stuff and people swear by her...not sure of her qualifications beyond that, but worth a call...

Both have Facebook pages...

Paul Tiffer is the gold standard but he is pricey.

I understand he's dropped his price of $1500 to $1000 for residencies, but that is still a lot.

My experience with Nica attorneys is, other than dishonesty and incompetence, the pricing. They will charge you $500 for the same work that they charge a Nica C$500.

I went to get a will done,, simple document, got a bill of $1K
I objected to the price, and the lady reduced it to $500. I was expecting something between $100 and $200 for the work.

You need a reference for everything in Nicaragua, and always ask price first.

I know that you know all of this, but you writing belies it:

1. Always ask the price? Sure and not just in Nica and not just with layers...you make it sound like profound advice for living in Nicaragua.

2. You can pay less and may be fine or you may pay less and get nothing. Few lawyers will tell you the never did it before, etc....so they start to work and learn on your time. Cost is relative to results....and for some the time and hassle to get there.

3. If you are getting quotes of $500 for a 500 cordoba job, you are ID'd as a gringo mark....I can see how that happens with you.....need to change it up a bit. Yeah, a gringo may get quoted a bit more...but not 25 times the rate if they appear to have a clue.

True, you need to determine price ahead of time for just about everything,,, don't get in a cab without agreeing to a price.

Many of us assume professional prices are somewhat fixed: A will from one lawyer in the US will be more or less the same as the other.

Not the case here.

But yeah,, masons, anyone you deal with,, will attempt to get a bit more simply because of the perception that you have more, and can pay it.

It cuts both ways: I pay my farm people a bit more than what's expected and try to take care of them,, but it's not nearly what they deserve for a day's work.

After a while you develop a sense of whether a given price is right, but if you neglect to ask ahead of time,, you are kind of stuck when someone announces what you know is an outrageous number.

Patricia Sanchez helped me get my Cedula in 3 months! Not only is she a professional with different credentials. she is a pleasant and attractive person to work with. She has many different contacts that can help in many ways. She is honest. Many like me will give you great testimonials. Paul also has a great reputation. I have never worked with him so I can only state in what I have read. I am told that he is pricey. Many here know that paying low can cost a lot more than paying a higher price. especially in time. Contact Darrell Bushnell in Nica nuggets He can give you all contact information.

I saw the post about using Patricia Sanchez here and had to reply with my experience with her. It has been 21 months since she assisted me with my residency application and I still don't have my residency. The delay is all due to her not doing what she was paid for, not following up with immigration in timely manner, more than a year ago. I know some people have used her and had good results, which is why I used her but it seems like it is a roll of the dice with her. Don't use her!

I have not used her. But of the 20 or so comments I have seen about her yours is the only negative one. And it all sounds a bit odd...21 months, etc....maybe not her fault. In any case, she was an immigration employee before her own business so for complicated stuff like the 2 that started this thread..and assuming she still has good contacts there, she might be a good place to start. Straight residency stuff is not all that hard.
