I have been living and working as a dive instructor on Little Corn for the last 7 years. But am thinking of buying some land and starting a farm in Matagalpa area but first would like to give it a try. Wondering if anyone knew of anyone who would be happy to let me and my husband work for food and board for a month or so to get used to local farming techniques and see if we would like the area long term. ( we have a tent if necessary )

Facebook would probably be a better place to ask. There is an expats in Matagalpa page, or something like that. It is very active and many people live in the country.

My wife is leaving Nicaragua and I am looking for a partner for my farm.

It's not Matagalpa,, but elevation and growing capabilities are similar.

This is a serious, long term, money needed, adventure. I've created a lot of solid infrastructure over the last three years.

I'm not a yuppie, not organic,, although I do minimize chemical inputs.

You can see many pictures of the farm as it evolved over the years on The Real Nicaragua.

Go to Forum,, Nicaragua Scrapbook, If you are interested, visit the farm and take a look. It's easy to find. I will be in the US from the end of year to June, but I have a solid crew and a manager who can show you around.

The farm is about 40 acres in size. I intend to eventually plant coffee or Cacao,,, or both.

The farm is in an excellent area for coffee,, probably better than Matagalpa. On a north facing down slope,, at 4000 feet, we have a never too hot,, never too cold, environment. Beautiful views.

You can pitch your tent in any number of places (on top of the dam next to the lake would be good), and the crew will feed you.
