Hi! I am a U.S. citizen born to a Nicaraguan father and am looking for a company or trusted person in Managua who can assist me with filing the paperwork needed to obtain my Nicaraguan birth certificate. I already have the required document and am aware of the procedure, but unfortunately won't be in Nicaragua any time soon. Any leads would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have a similar issue with a US born son of a Nicaraguan mother who is illegally in the US.

I have his birth certificate and US Passport but don't know the procedure for getting him Nicaraguan-ized. He was a year old on the 8th of January.

I understand that the process starts at the US Embassy?

He is physically in Nicaragua at the moment and I have the necessary custodianship documents from his mother to advocate in his behalf.

The plan was to bring him back to the US at some point for language and school. So, there is no urgency but I understand that these things can take time.

I go to Managua from time to time,, I'm doing my residency at the moment.

I would think the uS Consulate would have nothing to do with this

Try Gobernacion, which Mercedes says is in the same locarion as Migracion in Esteli, de super las segovias, 3 or 4 cuadras hacia la carretera. If they don't do it theyu will point you in the right direction.

No,, the process starts with the US Embassy,, don't know why.

I've been to the Nicaraguans already,, the CSE in Telepaneca (baby resides in Madriz),, and they made some calls for me.

I was hoping the poster could give me a roadmap, but I'm heading to the embassy tomorrow. Since it's Trump's big day,, I probably won't get much.

I have other business with them anyway, so it's not a wasted trip,, and there is always PriceSmart to look forward to.

the consulate probably has to sprinkle magic dust on the US birth cert. and other docs to prove the kid is real and his mother is Nica, then it goes to the Nicas.

Say hello to the Chamuca trees and the Hugo statues for us .

Fraternal organizations seem to carry a lot of weight in many parts of Latin America. If you're a member of Rotary or a Mason, look for a link there. The Oakland Chapter of Hell's Angels might even be worth checking into, or not. You'd know.

Could be. Seems to be an improved relationship with the embassy.

I was in Managua,, stopped by Intur to see what was new with residency.

They've streamlined the process,, most of what you need can be done here. You still need the official notarized birth certificate,, but according to the girl I met with,, they now accept embassy authentication in lieu of an apostile.

They accept the police report from Interpol,, also you can get a health certificate from the local centro de salud.

That leaves the income,, and if you are using SSI to qualify,, that document also comes from the embassy.

I went by migration to buy the official forms that start the process. Was approached by two very old ladies begging coins. One little wizened thing claimed that she was 107 years old,, her friend was a young 88. Both still alert,, both still getting around fine.

Must be the water.

Always a possibility. They didn't use their ages as a begging tool. I asked them.

The one who claimed to be 107 came up to my waist. The other was a head and a half taller.

I gave them each 5 cords,, this was in the "foreigners serction",, better picking than the Nica lines. I suspect that they do pretty good.

Ok. I knew this would be fun to follow! I am LOL at how KW Pirate has made such a fool of himself by telling us he gave a whopping 5 cordobas to 2 poor little women. And to top it off, he is trying to negotiate residency/citizenship issues on his own. For Gatoalpator, who wrote the question, You need the parent of a child has to do this for the child starting at the US consulate by presenting all actual documents of both parents and birth registrations. ( I have this very situation in my household family) An adult who wants to do this, particularly for citizenship, needs a local immigration attorney, in- country family members and be here in person. No one can do this for you. And it all does begin at the US Consulate as they must verify the US papers. You are dreaming if you think outside of immediate NIca family, ie, company or stranger will get involved, you are more than naive. And your entire line of questioning sounds very suspect to me.
My advise is to go to your nearest Nicaraguan Consulate with your issues and paperwork. They will advise you exactly how to proceed. This is no joke here and you must follow all the rules of law to the letter.

I'm the custodian of the child and have notarized documentation to that effect.

With this documentation I was able to drive the child from Arizona, through Mexico and CA,, and enter Nicaragua with him.

Whether I will be able to get is status regularized in Nicaragua,, I don't know. There is no hurry. He celebrated his first birthday this month. I don't think it matters at this point but eventually I suspect that he would like to have the dual citizenship.

Ultimately, his mother would like to bring him back to the US, but at the moment,, as a relatively new migrant,, she simply doesn't have the resources.

I DO know that I can do my own residency,, especially now that the process has been simplified. It might be less expensive to use an agent, what with the cost of fuel to get to Managua, but I suspect that I will have to make some of the appearances myself anyway.

I met Patricia Sanchez when I was there,, she was helping at least one person who was in line. There were at least two or three other helpers standing in line with their clients.

Interesting mix of people,, probably as many young as old.

KWP..You can certainly do your own residency.. Will take 2 trips to MGA. The forms you need are clear and not very complicated. You been around the block here a few times so not intimidated by the process.. Across the street from immigration are kiosks with lawyers who can whip up any papers they decide they want at the desk. For the kid...that may take some help.

I think you will also need to get most of your US Paperwork Apostille in the states. at least that's what I had to do in order for them to accepted my marriage cirt. here.

but I guess it depends who you ask,

It's interesting that you mention Aspotile.

From my discussion with the girl at INTUR Nicaragua is accepting more documents "authenticated" by the US Embassy.

Getting a straight answer might be difficult if the rules have changed recently.

So,, in my case,, I don't have to have my birth certificate apostiled.
They are accepting authentication from the US Embassy. You still need translation,, local notary,, but easier than before.

Using Centro de Saud ( I know someone who did this recently ) for the health certificate,, and Interpol for the police report means you can do it all here. You still need a notary to put his stamp on the docs,, and anything in English needs to be translated.

I feel that Patricia Sanchez' fee is very reasonable,, and if you don't speak sufficient Spanish,, a good way to go.

It's not the money,,,,,, I just would like the satisfaction of navigating the process myself.

I was surprised at the number of foreigners in line at migracion,, anad many seemed to be in the line by themselves.

In terms of someone remark that my activities regarding Ariana's son are suspicious,,,, it's a simple matter of her being in the US at the moment,,, without the necessary status to return to Nicaragua. The father is "unknown" on the birth certificate.

She could change that, you can add a father's name for a $70 fee until the child is 18 in Arizona.

But,, at the moment we use his passport for identification.
He gets his vaccinations without issue.

There is no hurry,, I was just hoping that someone who has already done it --as opposed to speculates about it-- could lay out a road map for me.

For me,, it's a long trip to Managua,, expensive and time consuming. Hard to get appointments at the embassy,, or even talk to someone.

We may just bring him back to the US,, and so this entire exercise is moot.
