I just booked a bus ticket from San Jose to Managua on their ejecutivo bus. Anybody have any experience with them?

We prefer Platinum, then El Sol, then Tica.

If you have a US address you could open a LifeMiles credit card with Avianca for a $149US fee and get a 60,000 mile sign-up bonus, which is enough miles for three round-trip econo tickets between Managua and San Jose. Buzzkill is you're often required to change planes in San Salvador.

It should be a good ride, newer bus and easy at the border. Our only complaint about the international buses is the loudness of the movies. Bring ear plugs or ear protectors just in case. Rides usually last about nine hours, three, meal stop, three border and three to the end. Bring paper for the sanitario. Buses can also be cold: over air conditioned. I always carry a long sleeved shirt and socks ,just in case. Make sure to pay your exit tax at the bus terminal in Managua, 8 USD and you will need 14 USD for the Nica side. We just came thru and every fee had gone up.

Thank you. Very good advice. Especially the earphones, toilet paper and frigid temps. Than you.

For the benefit of the group, here is my take on the experience. Left on time at 2 am. No problem with all my luggage, only two passengers, no traffic due to hour, stewardess to provide drinks and water, decent rest room, very cold environment (bring a sweater), crossing the border a bit confusing, arrived in Managua 930am which was great, everybody was polite and helpful.

I'd say 7 1/2 hours with a border crossing thrown in is very good time. You rode alone how far?

From San José. Usual time on Tica or Nicaragua bus I'm told is 8 hours and change. This bus left at am which helped
