My mother was born and raised in Corn Island. I own a piece of land and would like to build a place for the family. How do I go about getting a cedula or residency. I have my mother's birth certificate and an old passport.
I would like to eventually open a US $$ Bank account on the Island but need either a cedula or residency. Need to get that Asap

The rest of us did not know that we needed a cedula or residency to hand our money to a bank, we just went ahead & opened an account at BAC. They do want us to beg them to take our money. What is said & what is possible might be 2 different things.

If you do a search on this and other sites including Migracion you will see there are various routes to residency, most requiring proof of income or a business investment.

Bank policies vary, keep trying and somebody will open up a savings account with debit card for you. Don't know what's on Corn, you may have to go to Bluefields

Also, I don't know if your mother's status would give you a shot at dual nationality or not. Best to talk to Migracion.

If you go to the US Embassy they will give you an okay to open a bank account at BAC. Keep deposits under $5000 or you will have a mountain of paperwork. And best you make deposits into it from just one US source. Just e-mail the US Embassy Mangua for an appointment. Account should be in place within 10 days.

I opened an account with Banco National 12n yrs ago without residency or going to embassy. Hammer is not a resident. His advise is not accurate if you have residency, which Hammer does not, you can open any account you like quickly. You will be required as a Nicaraguan is, to provide income validation and all the other usual utility bills etc. It is not a problem but it does take some paperwork. I opened another one recently with residency only with valid paperwork.
