Nica Moving Budget

Hello all,

I have been perusing the forum some and have read much of what is available to me via the internet regarding moving my small family to Nicaragua, however it would be nice to get some first person input from those of you already there.

We want to relocate to the west coast as I am an avid surfer. We will be moving myself, my wife and two young daughters.

My question specifically is to gauge how much savings we will need to transition comfortably. Our intent will be to start businesses of sorts in Nica, I have experience stateside in real estate and can apply that(fluent in spanish), among other things and my wife is a Licensed Massage Therapist. Creating an Internet based business with global revenue is also a possibility although nothing established currently.

I got a quote from Garcia & Bodan to register a business and establish residency for the members of my family for approx $5000 US. I believe this would categorize under the 'investoria' status, however it was vague to me specifically how that capital needs to be invested to qualify. This seems to me like gringo pricing but I could be wrong?

I don't think we have a vehicle here in the states that we would like to import, so buying something in Nicaragua is likely. I have looked briefly at some listings for Toyota 4x4's and hi-luxs of the sort...what is it reasonable to expect paying for such a thing? Doesn't need to be pretty just run well/reliably. 10k? 15k? Auto values are evidently fairly high in Nica?

We live humbly in California (oxymoron?) and are looking for culture, better waves and low cost of living, as well as somewhere truly unique to raise our girls.

My exact question is, based off of some of the aforementioned, can this move/transition be accomplished with $30,000 US, or would I be better suited to continue saving, buy a property in Nica, and make the move a few more years down the road.

Thanks for the help and for taking the time for a long read!
