Just a quick note for anyone visiting Cuenca and want a good cup of coffee and a great expat hangout make it a must to stop by and met Chis and Jenny the owners. Two great people and are more than willing to give some great advice .They also have rooms to rent .Great fun. Great people. Rod

I have repetetively endorsed queen Cuenca's KOOKABURRA
where the elite
meet to eat
Here goes once more.
DO NOT miss it .It is a Cuenca MUST
La Cigale ALSO.
I foolishly forgot to write down ingredients of their absolutely fabulous signature juice drink Their own concoction and superb.
The ambiance is ARTISTIC, SOPHISTICATED, UPSCALE,first class.Yet unassuming.
Their PASSIONFRUIT masterpiece/cheesecake far exceeds ones I had in HI and Iceland. cappuccino, top notch.
Lunch special ,can't remember except that it was very good.
Did not see the rooms upstairs
The owners are exceedingly HELPFUL.FRIENDLY,CORDIAL and yes elite expats meet to eat at kookaburra ???one and a half years old and deservedly going strong

I have always found Kookaburra to be mediocre, at best. The portions are small and the prices, relative to other fare in Cuenca are on the high side. Food is spotty, but they are one of the few places open for breakfast and lunch on Sunday. Last time I was there, the waitress asked me how the food was and I told her it was lousy. I sat for a while and then asked for my check and the owner---------- an Australian fellow-------------- came over and told me that because the food wasn't up to my standards, he wouldn't charge me for it. I was so taken by the gesture that I insisted on paying for it, but he still refused to charge me full price for all I ate. This wasn't just a marketing ploy, the man is truly a nice person and I have vowed to go back once again to give them another shot at satisfying me. Tomorrow is Sunday, so it might be a good day to do just that.
