Mail in Ecuador

I have noticed that Ecuador does not have a postal service similar to the U.S. as every home doesn't have a mailing address per se. We have an apartment in Quito so technically we do have a mailing address. (I think) I am looking for suggestions as far as receiving mail/small packages (probably from the states) in Quito. We are considering two options:

1.) FPO/APO - I have heard there are companies in Miami that will basically rent you a P.O Box and then forward your mail to your home in Quito.

2.) I have also heard that there are P.O. Boxes are available for rent in Quito.

Does anyone have any experiences with either of these?? Any other suggestions regarding receiving mail?

I use TransExpress in Miami, they also operate Club Correos and I am happy with the service. If there is something you need quickly I recommend FEDEX, but you must have a physical address, PO boxes, APO or FPO addresses are not acceptable for any of the above. For PO boxes in Quito, go to the post office.

To the best of my knowledge FPO and APO addresses are strictly for the military and civilians working for the military overseas so this would not work for you in Ecuador.

Go to your nearest Ecuadorian Post Office and get a box, $25 per year, for receiving your goods. Generally there is no house to house delivery here of mail from the Ecuadorian PO. There is one behind the CCI shopping between Naciones Unidas and Japon, not sure of other locations, but you can ask there.

For Fed Ex and DHL you will need to go to the office for a pickup.....there are virtually no house deliveries here unless you pay extra for Servi-Entrega for that and they may only offer office to office service. One thing to bear in mind, things here in Ecuador, South America do not work as they would in Europe or in the states.
