Has anyone used them to help find a rental? They are all over You Tube and their ebook is actually pretty good.

They are pretty well connected, but they are only two people and rentals are snapped up pretty quickly. That is why there is not a list of available rentals that is worth a damn. There is no substitute for boots on the ground. In 2012, I paid a local man to find me an apartment and he found one in 5 days and I paid him $200

Their landing guide is excellent and has helped me a lot. I like their philosophical approach to living in Cuenca among the locals and trying to integrate into the culture.
Finding good properties to buy/rent at a good price is becoming more challenging in Cuenca as lots of people are turning out to "help" the "rich" expats. At least with Frank and Angie, you know what you are paying for their help.

I know MANY ex-pats who have used Frank and Angie's services in Cuenca, and have been delighted with their results.

They have three listings on their rental site per week. One apartment has been rented. It was $210 a month.
The two remaining apartments are $250 each a month. At least one of those has a three bedrooms and2 bathrooms.
I haven't used their service, but I have been following their Ecuador site since they started.
They are tough critics -- so if they find an apartment for you -- it will probably be a place that most people would be quite impressed with from what I can tell.

Looks like they found us a place. Pics look good. 4/3 3 blocks from Supermaxi, dog friendly unfurnished for $300. Transaction has been smooth so far.

They've done some pretty good man on the street videos -- one here in Anconcito last July -- it was neat seeing them up on the hill across from my house and not having a clue what was happening then spotting the video they filmed when i went looking for stuff to send to friends back north. They treated the folks in town well, and that gives them high marks in my book.

I would really like to know their fee as well. I have not been impressed with rentals in Cuenca being economical at all. In fact they seem quite expensive.

$337 was their fee. I'm still waiting to get the lease back but they have been excellent with communication so far. I give them 2 thumbs up!

Seems pretty reasonable to me. If you amortize what you are probably saving in rent over the time you stay in the place, I'm sure you'll come out ahead in the long run.

But wait......there's more! Juan and I are now brothers.....this is an e-mail I got from Frank last night.
Hello David:
GOOD NEWS AND BAD NEWS
BAD NEWS FIRST WHEN THE LANDLORD TO THE HOUSE YOU CHOSE SAW THE NAMES TO TWO MEN, HE STRAIGHT OUT ASKED IF YOU ARE GAY. HE SAYS I SHOULD HAVE TOLD HIM IN ADVANCE, BECAUSE HE DOES NOT WANT TO RENT TO GAYS. HE SAYS THAT HE WILL SUFFER SCORN AND EMBARRASSMENT AS THE CUENCANOS DON'T ACCEPT GAYS. ITS NOT JUST HIM PERSONALLY, ITS THE CULTURE.
GOOD NEWS ANYHOW, I GOT THE DEPOSIT BACK AND GOT YOU THE FIRST HOUSE, THE ATTACHED RECEIPTS ARE TO THE FIRST HOUSE. GET THIS, I NEGOTIATED THE RENT DOWN FROM $280 TO $255 PER MONTH. ITS' A BRAND NEW HOUSE YOU REMEMBER? I WAS NOT ASKED IF YOU ARE GAY NEITHER DID I VOLUNTEER THE INFORMATION.
ATTACHED IS THE RECEIPT FOR THE ONE MONTH SECURITY DEPOSIT, AND THE APPLICATION TO RENT, ITS A AGREEMENT OF RESPOSIBILITY STATING IF YOU CAUSE DAMAGE YOU WILL PAY IT TO THE REAL ESTATE COMPANY, SEE THE BUSINESS CARD ATTACHED . ALSO, THEY WILL EMAIL THE CONTRACT (THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO DO IT TONIGHT BUT DIDN'T, SAID WOULD DO IT TOMORROW) SO YOU CAN SEE IT, BUT THEY ACTUALLY WANT YOU TO SIGN IT IN FRONT OF THEM WHEN YOU GET HERE MAY 1ST. THEY DID NOT DELIVER KEYS BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT STARTING THE RENT UNTIL MAY1, SO YOU SAVED SOME MONEY ON RENT, PLUS LOWER RENT OVERALL, CAN'T BEAT THAT DAVID.
So....they got us a place at a great price. I only wish they would have checked with us, before they gave the deposit on the new place.

You are very kind to share this information in this public forum. I am sorry that you had to experience this bit of Ecuadorian culture, but it is best that you are well aware of it before you arrive. I'm glad the financial arrangements have worked to your benefit and I hope you are happy in your new place.

Thank you Omega. We always have thought Ecuador is like going back in time 30 years. Funny though, they grant civil unions with the exact same rights as marriage. As a realtor in the states even my most conservative clients get excited when gays move into the neighborhood. Property values start going up! :-)

Davidkor, I try not to deal in stereotypes, but frankly, what you say about property values rising when gays move into a neighborhood makes sense to me, based precisely on those stereotypes that can remain in the tacit realm.
Yes, you will be stepping back in time when you come to Ecuador and that can have its benefits as well as drawbacks. Enjoy the benefits and deal with the drawbacks and you'll do fine.

Can Frank and Angie help with securing rentals in locations other than Cuenca (like coastal areas)? How does one contact them? Do they have a website?

I think Frank and Angi actually live in Salinas now, so maybe. Does anyone know how it works with Frank and Angi? It seemed to indicate on their website that you pay a price and they send you some prospects. My question is, do they actually take you to see the apartments? And, if you don't like the ones they find, do they keep working with you until you find one? Or, would that be considered the "gold standard" level of help they offer?
