Lyrica Prescription

Hi. Does anyone here take Lyrica? I have fibromyalgia and am on disability. I am in the loja province right now, Vilcabamba, and I was wondering if there is any Ecuadorian insurance that helps with the cost. I have to take a lot, it would cost me over $300 a month to pay for it retail.
I also have medicare and I believe I get to keep it. My brother could send me my prescriptions but I know its hard to get shipments. Does anyone use that service that bundles expats shipments together? I would be fine with getting a PO box in Loja. Thanks in advance. I really want to move here, or Cuenca but probably here. I love it and all the people. I'm learning Spanish and will be a good community member.

lyrica is not a very good medicine. You should explore other solutions. If you feel you have to have it, I do not know if it is available in Ecuador. Yes you can keep your medicare, but it will not cover you for care in Ecuador. If you want to pay into the Ecuador health system, you need to go to SRI to sign up. They charge $62 a month for single and $83 for couple.
You can have meds sent from USA. they let you send 4 kilos, and $400 5 times a year. No problem Send by postal. International postal is reliable, cheap and efficient. If you send by private carrier, you may have problems.
What is your age?
Good luck
Larry

Hi Larry
Thanks! That's really helpful. I have no choice but to use Lyrica. I developed neuralgia a few years ago as a companion problem to fibromyalgia (they call it 'fire skin') and I just can't stand it. Its like being electrically shocked all day with no relief. I thank god for Lyrica. I hope its not killing me but I don't have much choice. Thank you so much though, I will have my brother send them. I don't think the Ecuadorian insurance pays for meds or not much, well that's according to a native I know. She just laughed when I asked. I will probably get it anyway for emergencies. Thanks again so much. I didn't know those rules.

The SSI insurance pays for doctor, hospital, drugs, and dental. The doctors here spend time with you and care about you outcome. There many natural doctors, some of whom have studied medicine in Israel. The native shamans have answers, that modern medicine is ignorant.
I have dealt with fibromyalgia for many years, I used to take a lot of aspirin and naproxen. I quite that because it seemed to be hard on my stomach. I use a lot of vitamins and nutritional supplements.
I have found that exercise though uncomfortable is a big help. I accept that I will have pain, and discomfort.
I have found that diet is important. If I eat the wrong things, I will suffer a lot of pain and disability for several days. Sulfites are a huge problem for me. Rancid fats are a big no no. I cook with olive oil, and never reuse the oil. Most restaurants are a mine field for me.
I use a lot of herbs and spices in my cooking, but do not use any premixed spice mixes. They will put me down for 3 to five days.
keeping your hormones in balance is very important. testostoine. DHEA, thyroid, should all be maintained at the 39 year old level. Massage, and acupuncture will both help.
Good luck
Larry

Thank you Larry. I tried for a good five years when it really started to kick my ass to only do natural meds but the 'fire skin' was just unstoppable. I will see an alternative doc today Or this week though. I am open to all help. I exercise every day but more than a 40 min meander and some pushups put me in bed for weeks. Mostly I can't sleep. If they could help me sleep that would mean a lot. Sulfite are also very bad for me. I have to stay away from sulfur foods like onions or the meds don't even stop it. I'm going to move here to Vilicabamba and I'm going to try plant meds. Its just that I spent a good $8000 on hormone docs in SF and that didn't help so I need to be careful about saying I will do everything. I no longer have enough money to do everything. I'm hoping that living this simple life will help.
Thank you so much for your replies. They help me a lot.

Have you tried coral calcium? 15 years ago I was having a lot of muscle pain, could not sleep due to the muscular pain and discomfort, could barely make it to the top of the stairs in our home - my doctor thought that it may be fibromyalgia. I started taking coral calcium and the pain went away, I was able to sleep again and my energy was back - Everything does not work for everybody - can't hurt to try it - and it is a lot less expensive than Lyrica. One bottle lasts a month and I order online for $12/bottle. Good Luck!

Hi AccessGoddess:

Welcome to the group.

I think you will enjoy your experience in Ecuador.

I am also 55 and moved here for my health almost 8 years ago. While my chronic illness is, well, chronic, I have been able to alleviate some symptoms and lower the dosage on a number of medications. That's important both from a long term use/side effects factor vs. quality of life issue, and as you know a cost issue.

If your doctor in the states is agreeable, as Lyrics is not a medication that is habit forming leading to abuse, non narcotic, and not on the WHO list of drugs, see if you can get a prescription for the largest 90 day dosage so you can refill before arrival and have sufficient between shipments, which can take time or be held up in transit.

Do make sure an emergency pack is always available at your local pharmacy in case of loss. You want to know you have back up even if it costs a lot.

Thank you Susan. I am loving Ecuador, I think you are right, I can be healthier here. I am looking into alternative methods in Vilcabamba and seeing an alternative doctor sometime this afternoon.
Thank you so much for the note. I hope you continue to do well or as well as we can do.
Cheers,
Jo

IN vilcabama we now have a holistic dentist and workshops on how to maintain dental health.. which is the opening to the body.. and really makes a difference in how your health can be improved.. many people improve once they learn about essential oils how to brush and how to deal with infection or prevent infection. thesagemind@gmail.com if you want more info.

Just a word to the wise.

There are many well documented alternative and holistic treatments that can help ailments of all sorts and not all healers are western medical doctors.

On the other hand, there are also plenty of charlatans and conmen and fakes here as well. Some who are felons convicted in their home countries.

Always do research on your medical person. Their name(s) and the word felon or con or convicted. Scam and fraud are also good choices. Especially for cancer treatments. Came across one of those types just today. Using basically paint thinner as a cure.

Be careful and stay safe.

Yes it is always a good idea to have references and especially know if the person is a licensed and responsible ethical person.. Anyone who doesn't want to give you references or history should be avoided at all costs.

Paint thinner is definitely a new low for someone to be touting for cancer treatment.

There's a generic? Oh my gosh, that might help with the cost. I have gotten it now without a presc. What is the generic?
Thanks!
