Anybody living in Ecuador currently have thoughts about the election? About political stability in Ecuador in general?
My wife and I will be traveling to Cuenca in September for a month. I will be evaluating whether a year-long stay will work for us (working at my state-side job remotely.)

"a year-long stay" If you can figure out how to do "a year long stay" in Ecuador without becoming a permanent resident, please let me know how to do it. Good Luck.

The new immigration laws that have not gone into effect yet, but do have an option to stay a year.
Article 56. - The tourist visa is for 90 days in the period of one year from the date of the first entry, and may be extended or extended for a single time up to 90 additional days, applying for the request and paying the fee.
If the foreigner is interested in extending his stay as a tourist for a maximum period of one year, they must apply for a special tourist visa, but they cannot carry out any activity other than tourism, demonstrating the economic solvency that allows that time to remain in the country Ecuador and paying the government fee. All foreigners who come as tourists must have health insurance for the duration of their stay in Ecuador.

Okay but the question still remains. No one answered it. The answering replies were about the one year residency. With the election going on or finished. Those of us in other parts of the world do not get the news. How did the election turn out and does anyone see any instability in life there post election?
