Our new Armenia forum is a great place to meet other expats! Be one of the first people to post a note introducing yourself!

Hello,
I am a US citizen living in Ecuador (a legal resident). I am also looking for another local for half the year. In this regard I am now learning about Armenia. Europe would be nice, Germany or Spain, except for the cost of living. So I look elsewhere.
I am going to guess not much Spanish is spoken in Armenia.... So I would start from scratch for language, that would be interesting.
half the year in Armenia, enjoying the local scene and attractions. Living economically (I am on social security).
I grew up as an expat and traveled around the world as a kid so living out of the USA is not the shock it seems to be for many USA citizens.
Thoughts?, is Armenia a reasonable destination for part of a retirement?

Hi, I am an American and my wife is Armenia. I have visited Armenia quite a few times, and lived in Yerevan, the longest time being about six months. I truly enjoyed the city, it's people, culture, and the many different places where I could play chess, with so many different people. I love the game, and it was fun shocking so many Armenians that an American could actually play the game. I also play bridge here in Chiang Mai, Thailand, where we have enjoyed living for the past seven years. We plan on moving, somewhat permanently, to Yerevan this coming September, and will so-oooo enjoy having four seasons, again. I let my wife take care of the socializing, and she does have lots of family and friends there. I don't speak Armenian, and would welcome a response from any expat, even if they don't play chess...haha

Hi, I'm Simon, recently moved to Yerevan with my Armenian wife Naz. Originally from Guernsey (UK), but have been working overseas for last few years. Really enjoying Armenia, meeting loads of Naz's relatives, unfortunately I don't speak the language. Would be great to meet up with some expats and share epxeriences.

Hi Simon, I'm quite in a similar situation, landed in Yerevan 2weeks ago, coming from Normandy (Fra). First steps once I get used to transportation and identify the main entertainments, is to go for a try. Irish or British pubs, squash and golf... Wanna join? David

Hello, From the date of your post you must now have been living in Armenia for over a year, so I hope you can help me with a query. We are considering moving to Armenia. We have two children - age 11 and 8 - and are trying to find out about QSI International School ,,, do you happen to know anything about it? Kind regards, Ruth

Hello Ruth, I've only been here since August. Sorry, I don't know very much about the schools. The schools in Yerevan are probably going to be the best, although there's a new boarding high-school in Dilijan that's supposed to be excellent (gorgeous campus, too). If I'm not mistaken, QSI is implementing a new style of teaching that's not so based on grades. If anything, look into the TUMO after-school program. It's free and the facilities provided are the best you can get. Best of luck.
