Possibly moving to Granada

My wife and I are in our mid 60's and retired with a monthly income of about $2800. USD take home. Will that be sufficient to live comfortably on? Are there many Americans living there? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, including whether we should begin by renting or buying and whether we should bring our cars over or not. Also, are there churches there? Thank you.

I'm not sure what your lifestyle is but if it is reasonably modest 2800 per month should be OK. Grenada is a higher cost of daily living than some other islands. There is a thriving expat community in Grenada with some Americans, the bulk will be British, also Germans. It's easy to fit in, Grenadians are very friendly and outgoing. Grenada has a very large Catholic population but there are also Lutheran and Seventh Day Adventist churches there. (I'm sure there are others as well, these are just the ones I personally know about.) I could get you in touch with one of the ministers and you could get more information from them. If you can, bring a car in. I believe you can bring it in at the onset without paying duty. Purchasing a car on island will be expensive between VAT and duty which used to be as high as 100% (before VAT was established, you'd 0need to check what's current. I would recommend that you initially rent until you get a feel for the island and where you want to live. There are a lot of lovely areas to consider but you'll also want to think about how much driving you want to do to get groceries, how close to town you want to be, etc.

candilicence - I appreciate your taking the time to give me that information. As for any move to Granada, being the adventurous one in the family, I am ready to try it out immediately. My wife, on the other hand has flatly come down against it.
So, I think for now my vacation time there will be spent online from Arizona, USA just looking, reading, and drooling.
Thank you again, and may God bless you.

I LOVE Grenada and plan to spend part of each year there shortly. The people are wonderful, the island is lush, weather wonderful and it is below the hurricane belt. AND it is definitely a third world country, with a lot of poverty and very high unemployment. It's not easy to get things done there. Many people have traveled there and fell head over heels in love (I'm one of them) but I would suggest you take a long vacation there first to see if it is a fit for your family before you contemplate moving there since your wife has concerns.
