Hello,
I am anticipating a move to Lagos, Nigeria from Virginia, USA in early 2013. I will be working in the Maritme Education and Simulation fields.

We have not lived abroad before, so we are looking for both general information concerning Housing, transportation, cars, drivers, etc. Is security needed or required?

What is a comparable USD income required to live comfortably in Lagos, I've seen its very expensive. Can anyone recommend a community, real estate agent, etc., to ease the search for details.

thank you all, Victor

Housing, vehicles, drivers and stewards are usually handled by the company itself. Some companies are very strict when it comes to security, esp for Americans so you will not be allowed much to roam around without escort.

Hello,
I'm 70 yo from Louisiana. I was there last year, and hope to go again in a couple weeks. What has already been spoken is accurate. I'm going to Lagos also.
I did some shopping around for different housing costs there. Depending on your tastes, expect 4-6 k USD's/mo. Don't be surprised if they ask you for the whole annual amount.
Lagos is an enormous city of some of the world's friendliest people. If you pass a total stranger on the side walk, and do not speak to them, they will call you out. Made me realize what we have lost in the USA.
Lagos has some of the world's wealthiest people, all the way down to the destitute. So just depends on what you're doing there, where you stay, etc. Each one's experience is different. Hope yours is a very pleasant one.
