Are there reasonably priced antique furniture or even used furniture stores on the island?

Furniture isnt cheap for anything half decent. I wouldnt rent unfurnished unless its a small apt. We had to buy a decent queen sized mattress that cost over a $1000 US , but its the best local made . Courts a UK based furniture store is here , mainly poorly made stuff, they also sell used stuff. You also see advertised in local papers. Antique would probably mean made out of Driftwood LOL

Pretty much what I thought. I have zeroed in on a rental, but have 3 I'm checking out when we arrive. I hope to have one rented by day 4 of my arrival. They are all furnished, but there are some furniture pieces I know I will need to purchase for my work, unless I decide to ship what I have in the States down. I'm thinking a container may be as much as buying new there, but I prefer decent quality pieces.

How about Rugs? the places I am looking at will have to have some rugs... ranging in size from about 3x5 to 9x12. Good stores for those? or are there local craftsmen for these?

There are good furniture stores here and im certain they sell rugs. Because of the warm weather , hardly ever below 70f most people dont bother with rugs, maybe a bedside rug. Im sure you can find all you want here to fill in, cheaper than bringing a container down, because yopu will pay duty ontop of transport . You can buy really good stuff, but its not cheap. What propertys are you looking at , if you dont mind me asking ?
