meeting the islands tourism minister

Hi to all those interested in long term tourism and more on this beautiful island.
I've been given the opportunity to chin wag with Louis Lewis, Mof T. on 5th Feb.
I shall be asking about the cost of long stays here, is having to pay 200ec per person for every month or part of after our initial 42 days. This applies to Canadians, Americans, and Brits. Other countries nationals need a tourist visa, we don't, but the cost of the visa is a traction of what we have to pay. Plus payment , in the downtown, no close parking, requiring documentation, photos etc . takes two visits each time, totally unnecessary and time wasting. Could be much better streamlined. Anyone who wants me to ask pertinent questions please ask. I shall also ask for names, email addresses and tel#'s for those who want up to date info on starting a business, importing equipment to start a biz , visa, work permits etc.
Trust this will help others in the future.
Robert.

Bobby, when you think about it, it becomes a matter of capitalism verses socialism. The capitalistic mindset reasons out the fact that it would be much better on the Island's businesses to have American, Brits, Canadians and come here to spend lots of money, if it was easier to stay. This helps everyone thrive. The socialistic mind says that if we make it difficult for A, B and C to stay, then our national well being (i.e. the government) stays strong. History shows, it is the capitalistic mind set that succeeds for both the country and its people. So the question is: Does the powers that be care more about their governmental powers or the people of St Lucia?

Hi Bobby,

Was wondering what the outcome of the meeting was. If I recall another thread, the minister was looking at reducing the need to go every month and possibly cheaper to renew?

Was also interested in any updated information on Starting businesses. I'm tired of the American rat race and would like to operate somewhere with blue oceans.

Hi YD Its like a lot of things in the Caribbean, they take time. I understand new legislation is being drawn up to make it easier and less costly to stay long term on the island . For instance, someone who lands of a private boat can get a 6 month visa, so why not someone off a plane. This will happen, just don't know the time frame
