We are coming to St. Lucia July 8, 15. Was wondering were I might find some expats to chat with about retirement there. Is there a favorite hangout for expats or weekly meeting for dinner, etc? Thanks, Tim

Hey Tim,
Yes, Bobby nailed it. The Rodney bay Marina is the place to be, especially on Friday night....Saturday night as well, but there seems to be more going on Friday evenings. The Rodney Bay Baywalk Mall has a lot of night life. Good restaurants, a Casino, Supermarkets, Shopping, Art, etc.
Please contact me when you get on Island and we'll hook up. The best way to get me is via e-mail.... joeythompson777@aol.com I check it hourly.
Where are you coming from and where are you staying? Let me know if you need a rental car, I can set you up.
Joey

Yes, we met Joey and his wonderful family at the Marina. Had a great evening talking to them or should I say drilling them for information. They were very accomidating and answered everything we could think of. They even invited us to their house for dinner but regretably our schedule of things we had planned kept us busy or too tired. St. Lucia is a wonderful place and we really enjoyed it, but it may be too expensive for us. Rent is pretty high as is everything else, but problaly cheaper than the other islands in the Carib. Wife wants to move right now. She is sold. I am too other than the cost of living. So maybe we will live there part time and someplace cheaper part time, etc. The views , the food , the water are fantastic. We were trying out the bus system and went back to the Marina the next night for stone oven pizza. Very good. Also ran into Joey and family there again. Too bad you weren't there Bobbyvee, would like to have met you also. Maybe next time! So the wife is trying to figure out how to get her diabetic supplies down there. We understand there are ways to forward things there from the States.

Hi Tim. Glad you enjoyed so much. Its a wonderful island, but ,yes prices, compared to USA are high. Im diabetic,type2 , ive a Dr. friend who writes a prescription for me free, and I can get any diabetic stuff at a reasonable price. I also bring a 6 months supply with me from USA. You can forward from the USA. don't know if its any cheaper. We head back late Oct. Just bought a house on Nature Gulf coast Fl. we settling in there. We intend to use it as our home and base, visiting St L and Europe as and when. Take care, thx for info.

No problem Robert, I'm staying on Rodney Bay Drive in a private dwelling. I wanted to live with the people to find out how they all live and not in a resort as this is not really a vacation, but a recce of sort. Robert I read somewhere that there a Royal bank in Rodney Bay? I can't find a listing for it if there is, I just want to know if they are compatilble with the North American branches, with all the services.

Hi Tim. Sounds like a good idea, we have many local friends, absolutely delightful. Ive never heard of a Royal Bank, we use Scotia Bank , which is Canadian, and yes similar to a US bank, but slower. You need quite a bit of 'stuff' if your going to open an account, but you can get all their banking details on line. They have a branch in the middle of Rodney bay. Good luck.
