Hello,
I'm a German Citizen who is married to a St Lucian. Actually we live in Germany but I'm thinking of moving to st Lucia cause its hard to almost impossible to find a job in Germany for my wife, plus the language is really hard to learn compared to English.
After reading many forums im a bit worried about finding a job in st Lucia. I'm a Chef and wife said it will be pretty easy to find a job since many employees (the big hotels) tend to take well trained chefs from overseas... My questions are: Will I have less trouble to get a work permit since im married to a Lucian citizen? Anybody knows about the income in the tourist sector (esp. As a Chef) From what I read in the forums luvian employees take Lucian citizens first...so the opposite of what my wife told me.
I hope I will find some answers here.
Greeting from Germany

Hello Freddie,
Yours is one of the few occupations that stand an excellent chance of landing a job here. Not sure about pay, but I do know some chefs here make well in excess of 100k. Others not near that amount. I guess it all depends upon your skills, references, places of employment (as far as how well known it is) and schooling. This place is big on piece of paper, something I absolutely loath.
I would contact Chefs at every resort and restaurant on Island. Obtain their e-mail addresses and send them messages asking them to keep an ear out for an opening. Most Chefs here are more than willing to help a fellow mess hall man.
Let me know if I can help in any way......
Joey

Hey Guys,
Thank u for ur answers, this is really a great and informative forum. I read all the posts.
Since some of the posts are pretty old I have a question about the actual healthcare (we all not getting younger rite :) ) I know they have a pretty modern private hospital there but what about regular doctor and and sort of health insurance...is it affordable for a "normal" worker? My wife never had experience with insurances cause she cudnt affort and I know from some of her friends that have to save their money for quite a long time till they can afford an needed surgery...
Btw. I hope u guys have no problems with my English, I know its not perfect ??

Hi Freddie. I've a surprise for you, as a European, your entitled to health care at other European countries, well Martinique is a French territory, uses the euro, so you could get medical stuff there, I still go back to UK , but buy local meds, see local docs, not expensive. Wouldn't worry too much about health care. Good luck
