Hello everyone, Myself and my partner want to sell up in the UK and move to Saint Lucia. My partner is a Paramedic with 22yrs experience. He would like to know if he would be able to continue with this and what the jobs are out there for paramedics. Also we would be looking to buy a property to live in.........would this be easy to do and what are the things to look out for when buying.

Hi you 2. Have you been to St Lucia ? Its a lovely place to live, costs are similar to UK, not cheap. Good housing is expensive, all property is priced in US $'s. Jobs are scare and you can't take a locals job, on the other hand, if a job is available that no local can fill you have an opportunity. I will ask a friend of mine, he,s a doc and director of Tap ion private hospital what your chances are. You would need to live north of Castries. Check out www.bluereefrealestate.com to get ideas of property. I'm a retired Brit from the Bournemouth area, live in Florida and St L. Will get back to you. Robert

Hi Robert, thank you for your kind support regarding asking your friend about Paramedic employment. The one other thing that we can’t seem to find out is the cost of running a typical 3 bed home i.e electric prices, rates etc if you have any advice on this I’m sure that would be very helpful as my other half is a Yorkshire man (always thinking of the cost ha ha). I haven’t been to St Lucia but Pierre my other half has a couple of times. Any further info would be great.

Hi. Electricity is high compared to USA, Remember you don't need heating here. We only have a/c in the main bedroom . which we hardly ever use. I think adding up the utilities plus TV ,Internet the cost is around $800ec per month. If you run a lot of a/c your bill will soar. We live about 400ft above the sea, lovely trade winds keep us cool, we have a jacuzzi on the roof to get a refreshing cool off in the pm. You will find a lot of British goods in the supermarkets, mainly Wait rose. Pork & chicken are cheap, beef, which is Aberdeen Angus is great quality but pricey . cars are also expensive, but a necessity. I think the both of you should come make a recce trip and see for yourselves. Robert

All the main facilities are focused around Rodney bay, theres very little below Castries, and the city is not a place for expats. Im hearing that your husband has very little chance of employment in his present capacity. Jobs are scarce , in truth I wouldn't rely on getting employment, you can always start your own biz. which is what many expats have done. If you see anything you like property wise let me have the details, i'll tell you about the area etc. Look forward to seeing you after Xmas
