Hi! We are considering relocating to St Lucia due to husband's work. Our daughter is 12 and would be in year 8 in the British system in September. I would be really grateful for school or home school (website) recommendations. Many thanks for your help in advance.

I would recommend home schooling. Unless you are from this culture, its the best option, IMO. There is a school for Expats, called The International School, but it is very expensive. However, it may be the right fit for you.

Hi. My kids are in their 40's lol. So no direct knowledge of schools here. Assume your coming from the UK. I know there's a good private school in Tapion, /Le TOC are ,just on the out skirts of Castries. Do you know what area you will be in ? My friends the Thompson , Joey & Maria home school, but they use a US based home schooling programme . I'm sure there are British based ones as well. I will ask a local friend who is very knowledgeable on the school systems here. Good luck.

Hi. I dont believe culture has anything to do with local schools, you get far more culture clashes in US schools in big cities than you do here. Many school kids here achieve very high levels of education and go onto colleges and universities in the UK , Canada and USA . If you intend to live here for any length of time i think a good local school, which has a mix of expat and local kids is by far the best way to go to get intergrated into St Lucian life. I will have so upto date info on schools available to your daughter within a few days.

Hi Again. My good friend , John Douglas , ex President of Rotary and chairman of the Orphanage has 3 suggestions, one being the international school , secondly St Josephs Convent , Cedars, Castries, his lovely talented , educated daughter went there, a great advert for the school, thirdly , Leon Hess, Entreport ,Castries. You would need to check them out on arrival. Good luck.

Hi Joey,
Thank you for your reply. I have never home schooled, challenging enough to get your child to get started on their homework (!), however it may be something I will consider depending on the schooling allowance or lack of it. The school you mentioned looked pretty good. Thanks!

Hi again. Just a couple of points re schooling. My colleague John's daughter was at the Convent and is going onto higher education, and my wife's physio was there and went onto get a degree at Manchester uni. They both say the school provides a very high standard of education, compatible to anywhere in the western world. Its really down to you and you kids as to how they do at school.

I hear convent and hess are good. Not sure on rules regarding students coming from overseas though. My cousin and friend went to convent and they are both currently in uni herei n the UK. International school could also be an option but I believe they follow a Canadian curriculum

Biggest problem i hear with International school is getting your child in, i hear its over subscribed, but that must change from term to term, its also costly. Its really getting here and taking a look and finding out whats available etc etc.
