Hello, we own a timeshare in St. Lucia and have been coming down for years. An opportunity has come up to open a business in Rodney Bay and we are seriously considering it. We have an eight year old who is attends school in the U.S. Which is where we live. I will go back and forth with her and my husband will be there with the new venture. Only coming a couple of weeks each year hasn't given me a taste of what life is truly like there and especially for a foreigner. What are some thoughts and advice from people who are there and have blazed the trail for others . We love St.Lucia and have a few friends that are there already , St. Lucians who are encouraging us to do this but that's easy for them to say as they aren't in our position . I would love honest responses and realize everyday life there won't be as pampered as my timeshare ?? Thank you

Hi. Carolyn my wife and I have lived / travellers great deal of the world, we sold our beach home in Belize last yr and started looking for a new Caribbean destination, Carolyn had dived off many of the Caribbean islands , but St Lucia seemed to tick all our boxes. We rent here, as we have a lovely home in Fl. And another in England. We just love the place, the weather, mountains, and especially the people. Its not really a 3rd world country, most things in place , although a lot of food has to be imported, so living costs are higher than US. Also elec. can be high if you turn on a/c , which really isn't necessary. You will need to buy a vehicle, again , not cheap, but once your settled in, there's really not too many problems. You visited many times, so you have a pretty good idea on life here. Good luck to you and the family. Robert

Hello Peepmom,

I have lots of thoughts and advice, but I would like to know what type of business you are thinking of opening.

We have been able to open and run a quite successful business here, but its not been easy. We have children 8, 11, and 13 here. We home school them via the internet. It works well.

Also, what area of the states do you hail from? That knowledge will help gauge what you may be up against economically.

Joey
