Hello Everyone,
My husband, two small boys, and I are looking to move to St. Lucia from Brooklyn in the next few months.
Can anyone tell me their thoughts on schooling and childcare? Our 3 year old is being home schooled right now. Our 1 year old hangs out and watches intently.
We own our one location independant company and work from home, so we do have the time if the schools aren't great there.
Also, we are planning to only bring the necessary clothing with us. Is there shopping areas for other clothes, furniture, and other things we would need to furnish a home?
On that note, We are probably going to rent for a bit before buying. Can anyone tell me about the rental market, where to look, what to expect to pay?
I know I asked a lot of questions, but I am willing to guess that a lot of people would be helped by your answers besides myself.
Thank you!

Hi there, sorry for the delay in replying. Home schooling is an option, there are many good schools as well . There are major shopping centres around Castries and Rodney bay for all you need. Check out www.bluereefrealestate.com for rentals, most expats live in the north of the island , north of Castries. Buying property is expensive, renting is a good way to go. Trust this helps a bit.

Hi. You mentioned airports in your headline, not sure what you need to know , the main international one is at the bottom of StL about 75 mins from Castries / Rodney bay. The airport in Castries is local flights to surrounding islands

Hi There!
I moved to St Lucia a few months ago and my Wife and four young kids will be moving out early Feb.
There is a nice montistori school in the north of the island which we have toured. They are kind of busy though with a wait list. Depends of the age/grade you would be looking for. My kids are 3 to 10.
My Wife used to work as a teacher and we are considering home schooling all four kids. Still working through the details on this.
We too are bringing/brought minimal clothing etc. you can get pretty much anything you need here. Not concern yourself too much on this!
Renting is the way to go. It will take a while to feel the place out and decide where you want to live before you buy. We currently rent a house in the north of the island which seems to be where most expats live. Friday nights at the marina is a good place to meet local expat family's.
Bobby knows way more than I do about St Lucia as he helped us out when we were in the same boat as you, but feel free to reach out to us is you need further info.
Good luck!

Wow! This is so helpful!
We are starting with a short term rental in Gros Islet and then going to look for a longer term rental before we buy.
When we get there I will be sure to touch base with you and your family!
Where are you all coming from?
Thanks so much!!
