Hello, my family recently moved to St Lucia due to my husband's job. We have settled into life here, our 2 year old is at nursery for a few hours each morning, and I spend that 'me time' hunting for food (as we all know that one supermarket will never complete your shopping list here!!). However, my query is this; I am looking for other mum's in my position for potential play dates in the afternoons or other activities for my little girl to join in, but keep drawing up blanks. No swimming lessons as a minimum of 3 kids is needed and so far only us! No dance classes unless you are St Lucia/at school/over the age of 5! We go to the beach/pool everyday (unless torrential rain), but variety is needed and I can't seem to find any. Any advice please on these 2 queries? Thanks x

Hi Caz. You dont say where you are living, but have you ever visited the Marina on a friday night, its usually full of expats with young kids, im sure chatting to few of them might give you the answers your looking for. Good luck

Just a follow up, the two supermarkets in Rodney bay should have all the foods you need. Also at the Marina is a great Deli , lots of yummy stuff and on the right hand side inside the Marina, on a Saturday morning is a very good fresh veg and spice market.

Hi Robert, yes we live in Rodney Bay and go to the Marina weekly but never bump into any expats as we eat early so we can get our 2 year old home to bed on time! We have met lots of people and live next door to the owners of Café Ole but there aren't many expats around with similar aged kids or expats who wish to befriend someone who will probably leave after the 2 year contract. Thanks anyway, I will keep searching :)

Hi again, don't you worry I have visited my fair share of supermarkets, there was another egg shortage and tomatoes were no-where to be seen for a week!...island issues :)....but I found a new favourite Massey store yesterday at Sunnyacres....much calmer and more produce. The Gourmet is closed for refurbishment at the moment and the Marina market is more expensive than the supermarkets...for expats anyway! All this searching keeps me busy anyway and out of trouble :). Also, for anyone else reading this; Suzy's minimart on the way out of town is great for some items. Thanks for responding Robert.

Hi Caz. True, not too many expats with 2 yo's , But you seem to be finding all the right places, by the way there's a jumbo egg shortage here in Florida, plenty of other sizes. and you would think there would be plenty of toms around. I know the marina market wasnt cheap, we haggled a bit but they had stuff there we couldnt always find in the supermarkets. I do hope you enjoy your two yrs stay, we lived on and off for two yrs there and loved it, we still have good friends there. Have you come across Maxine , she sells jams and pickles on a Wed. early evening outside Razmataz, a great place to meet British expats and dear Sue who owns Razmataz . Take care Robert

Hi Robert, no I haven't met those 2 ladies yet, will keep my eyes out for the jam lady! Eggs are back, but now avocado's are nowhere to be seen and they are in season!! Gives me something to talk about apart from the weather at least :)

We moved to St Lucia a month ago, live in Coubaril and are a German family with two girls (2 and 5 years old). They go to Tapion school, but I would love to meet in ther afternoon at the beach or somewhere to socialize. I look forward to hear from you, Annett

Hi there Annett. I know the Coubaril area well, had good friends living there awhile ago, but as they found they were a long way from any good meeting places, you really have to travel upto the Rodney bay area, Also lots of families get together in the Marina on fridays. We are both in our 70's so didnt have those kind of problems. Have you talked to any other Mums at the school about socialising ? Good luck
