No honey you live next to the White Grove i think its called, which is a very nice upscale area. They are speaking of The Grove which is not so much.

We are going to be relocating there this summer. And I was curious how you felt Sandyport is?

Thanks so much for your replies, really helps.. I think I have come to the conclusion that Sandyport would suit our lifestyle perfectly! With the amount of research on the internet it is slightly overwhelming. I was planning on shipping a few boxes over including kids bikes and toys.. do they charge a lot of duty on items and would it be cheaper to just buy them in Nassau?

Where you are is NOT "crime ridden," however you need to be smart. Remember to secure your gates and be aware of your surroundings when you enter through your gate to be sure no one slips through. This is pretty much the case no matter where you live, although less so if you are in a gated community.

Hello, the Eastern road is nice, one would tend to find there really old homes with lots of yard space. I would suggest Port New Providence or Palm Cay to you. These are two of the most prestigious and secure gated communities in the eastern district and within walking distance to St. Andrews. If you plan to be a boating fanatic a then Port New Providence is your place; nearly every residence if not all have a boating slip, as well as have their own pools. This community has tennis courts and is on the beach. Palm Cay does have slips for rent within its community but not at your back door. If it is ocean front you should be fine! Just dont go hang out in the Grove :)

Could someone elaborate, we have a place oceanfront, between Goodman's bay and Saunder's beach.
Across from the grove.
Is this a crime ridden area?

Really depends on what your wanting. If your wanting a secluded planned community or "tourist life" go to Paradise Island. If your looking for more connections with neighborhoods of the island, then live outside. We live on West Bay street (cable beach area) right on the beach, gated community (eves condos) and thoroughly enjoy the view as well as walking distances to shops, stores etc. In addition it is right down the street from the new Baha Mar area which means things will be (and currently starting) to change such as new restaurants, spa's, retail stores, etc. BTW, if your looking for a place we're actually moving to a house later this year which is right next door and have a 3000 sq foot condo that will be available shortly. Newly built with all the accommodations and beautiful views. Right on the beach, pool, garage, safe and modern. a good friend of mine has a nail salon on 1st st in the Grove and everywhere around them is constantly being robbed, not to mention I can name atleast 4 people who have been murdered in the Grove within the last 6 months. So personally I would not live anywhere near it. But yes I suggest the places Brejia recommended out West and most places more eastern on Yamacraw are perfectly fine! I always stay out East off Yamacraw for the months I am in Nassau.

Port New Providence is also a gated community close to St. Andrews. There are also small "gated communities" or developments along Yamacraw, just as there are out east. Another non-gated area out west that is safer than some is Blair.
With regards to the Grove, there is also a Grove West that is much safer, but you would need to be sure you are looking in the Grove West.
I certainly would not say that Kemp Rd. and the Grove are THE worst areas in Nassau, but by the same token, most expats with children would not be looking in those areas. A realtor would never take such clients to those areas.
Know what amenities you are looking for and how much you can afford, then try to clarify the areas that would be best suited by asking more specific questions.

If you are looking for out by St Andrews then Winton is close and safe- but it is not gated, Treasure Cove is the only gated area by St Andrews. Winton is safe though, Treasure Cove is $$$$$. The prison is right at Fox Hill and Yamacraw and Elizabeth Estates (Lizzy) is right behind there--Lizzy is OKAY but I def dont recommend it. Nothing too serious but I wouldnt suggest as an expat with two small children.

i havent been on here much lately but when I saw the Grove i had to comment! IT IS THE GHETTO, Kemp Rd and the Grove are the two WORST AREAS in Nassau. Murder and robbery central. Please stick to Sandyport, Cable Beach, Paradise Island, or the Winton area out east. Montague is okay also. But lol please please not the Grove :)

I was also wondering about places to live in Nassau and what areas to stay away from. Can anyone tell me if the Grove is considered a safe area? It looks like it's somewhat close to the over-the-hill section of Nassau which I hear has a higher incidence of crime.
