Many people get confused, the rentista visa is not the same as the pension visa.
PENSION VISA is three times min wage. Must come from gov agency, ie USA social security.
RENTISTA VISA is 10 times minimum wage. Can not be personal income from a job, but can be fixed income from investments, insurance policy pay outs, treasury dept, veterans admin, military retirement pay, retirement pay from large companies that are not gov agencies.
MIN WAGE IS ADJUSTED EVERY JAN FOR INFLATION. 2013 IT IS 589,000 PESOS APRX.

you better check again I do not think you need 36 K in pension to get pensioners visa..

3200 dollars for what type of visa.. a pensioner visa is only 3 times the mininum wage in colombia I am not sure what the mininum wage is . but 3 x mininum wage surely does not come to 3200 dollars.. I do not believe that.

ColombiaGringo, by "Rentista" in Ingles does that mean someone that wants to move to Colombia and uses as proof he/she has sufficient monthly income that is not pensioned by, for example, Social Security?
I looked at the 17 types of Colombian visas, and saw nothing called "Rentista Visa", but I imagine would qualify as a type of "temporal especial" visa , the same visa that a pensioner or someone who plans on marrying a Colombian would obtain. A one year visa, is this or any of this correct? Thanks again in advance.

The new office is Called Migracion Colombia, but they only register and extend visas at the regional offices. The main office in Bogota or Consulates are still in charge of actually issuing the visas. They do extensions for tourist visas and residency visas.

Hi there,
I can't answer any questions about the visa, but I can tell you that the office for all this in Barranquilla is the same place as the DAS was before... and in general, people still talk about going to DAS, though everybody knows it's now Inmigracion Colombia, Relaciones Exteriores or something like that. Anyway, I think the address is Calle 54 No 41 - 133, though you might want to call to confirm before going.
Also, they keep kind of weird hours. It's best to go really early in the morning. They close from like 11:30 to 2:00 or something like that. You may be able to find the specific info on the web.

I personally processed 4 rentista visas in the last 6 months so i can assure you that there is a rentista visa.

Just remember that most consulates are only accepting pension letters from government agencies like social security in the USA. They were more flexible in the past.

Yep, got it! I will be living in the Nicolas de Federman barrio in Bogota, nice central area, smallish 2 br apto overlooking a park. Cozy, am looking forward to it but major change!! Thanx again.

Thanks for the kind comments. As you might know already, before you submit your pension visa application have your award letter officially translated, notarized and apostilized before submitting it to the consulate. I was delayed due to not doing this. I'm originally from Orange County, CA

I am on a pension visa way below that level. I obtained mine in the US last year. Please verify your pension visa at your local consulate and you just might be surprised that you will get one.

I have gone on Colombia visa information sites for over a year now and if there is a "rentista"visa" perhaps there is a different name. Can someone please verify that it exists?
Also I was unaware that it takes a US income of more or less $36K/year to qualify for a pensioner's visa which I understood to need to be renewed annually until the pensioner has lived for 5 years at which time he or she can apply for permanent visa without expiration. Thanks in advance, Patrick.

You have to show a FIXED foreign income greater than 3,200 dollars aprx, exact amount 10 times colombian min wage (589,000 pesos). You have to back this up with deposits shown by your bank and an official letter or contract which shows you will be receiving this amount for an extended period of time, ie longer than the 1 year visa.
people who have dividends, or may have sold a business in the states, or people who have fixed rental income from property owned are some examples.

Is there an immigration office in Barranquilla to do this registering of my visa to get a cedula and whatever else i need relative to living a daily life with bank account, license, id. etc...

DAS no longer handles the immigration issues anymore. I believe it is the inmigración office that handles all of the visa paperwork.
