Hungary: Is this normal for a hungarian uni?:

I am studying in Hungary. Last term 25% of our lectures were cancelled, sick, working on something else, elsewhere. One of the profs clearly had not prepared for the class every week. The last week of his class he said we would just watch a movie and then he cancelled that too as it was too long. I had hoped these were teething problems… We took 5 subjects last year and we have only had grades back from 2. The other three classes we have asked where the grades are with no answer. My dissertation supervisor has still not read the 1st draft of my paper, I sent 13 weeks ago. Term is due to star this week and one of the Prof has emailed to say that his classes are cancelled for the next three weeks as he is on leave.

Hungary: Going to the doctors....:

I need to see a gynecologists for infertility. So I found a English speaking doctor and emailed him explaining my problem, I saw him for an appointment, he did not examine me and refereed me to another clinic. I emailed the other clinic, told the the problem went to the other clinic had a 3pm appointment and was seen at 4:20pm for the doctor to then not examine and said I needed another appointment! I asked again the cost of the appointment and it was ignored, he just said it would cost a lot, then I emailed the clinic and asked them, they respond sure see you soon, but wont tell me the cost! I have tried asking in Hungarian too – still no answer. Is this normal? What am I doing wrong?

Hungary: Hungarian Email Etiquette:

No, it shold be the same as in the USA, or anywhere else in the world. I would expect a response within a few days and if no response after a week, I would usally resend the email. One thing I have noticed, if Hungarians dont know the answer to something they just dont answer you! It drives me crazy.

Hungary: traffic fine:

No, in the UK you can get a fine from a camera or issued from the council too. A policemen does not have to stop you and give you the fine in person. Maybe it is the same in here.

Hungary: Survey of the locals:

The economy is not good - its not terrible either, I would say it was bearable. Wages are low, my friend charges 2,500huf per hour to teach English and he thinks thats a good wage. One of the strangest things is that a lot of things can cost more in Hungary than in the UK - like branded shampoos and perfums and crisps.

Hungary: cost one foreign student live with 150000 huf for month a normal style of life:

yes, you can rent a room for 100,000 huf, you will need 20,000 huf for food, 5,000 huf for transport. Money will be tight, but you could manage.

Hungary: Trying to buy in Budapest:

We have been trying to buy a place in Budapest for a while now. We are resident in the UK and wish to buy a home in Hungary. We have been told by the the Hungarian banks that they are not lending to foreigners. Our estate agents however has said that "it is possible for their lawyers to arrange a loan for us, through a Hungarian bank" however, I have asked and she won't elaborate how this is possible. Instead, she keeps asking for us to come over and look at places. We have already found somewhere we like, there are plenty of nice cheap flats on her books, I don't want to fly to Hungary again just to look at places, to find that we won't be able to get the mortgage. In 2009 we found someone where we liked to find that it was not possible to get the financing. Does anyone know exactly how the lawyers can arrange the mortgage?
