China: Anyone in Shenzhen want to come out to play?:
I have just moved to Shenzhen in the last few weeks and I would be interested in getting involved with the expat community. I've been hidden away in the deepest darkest regions of Central China for the last year, it would be nice to meet a few new people.
China: Changing Careers?:
I have a problem in that I was previously working as a teacher in Hunan province, but was then offered a mouch better job in Shenzhen in Marketing. Unfortunately I have come into some problems with the local Labour Bureau. I think the problem is that the company that wants to hire me is taking a much needed foreign teacher from a fairly poor province. Can anyone advise me on what I should do to get me work permit renewed? It seems a little overdramatic to have such a big problem with me changing career.
China: Is it a problem for a foreigner to share room w/Chinese girlfriend?:
Ok, for a small twist on that, I'm a western girl who has a Chinese Boyfriend. We spend the summer travelling around some of the smaller places in the south of China and there was no problem with me staying with him. But when I lived in Huiahua, Hunan we eneded up staying in a very cheap hotel for about two or three nights. Huiahua is one of the restricted zones, but as I worked there I had permission to be there. But the hotel wasn't allowed foreigners. The manager of the hotel was worried incase someone outside saw me coming or going from the hotel with my boyfriend. They could very easily tell the police and have HER arrested. Not to mention myself and my Boyfriend. So as said before, just be careful. Go to a good hotel and there is no problem. Go to a bad hotel and you may have some trouble. Plus don't forget that it's still officially illegal to have sex out of wedlock here, although it's generally not enforced.
