Hungary: Hungarian Email Etiquette:
I think you should be able to work on your citizenship stateside with the local consulate. the consulate is in new york or d.c. depending on what state you live in who's jurisdiction you fall under. the consulate also sends out their ppl locally as well so you don't have to travel. I know because the local hungarian clubs ex: Cleveland, OH and Charlotte, NC put this info in their newsletters. I don't think you should need a lawyer. I would work with the consulate. if you show originals to the consular officer make sure they give the original back and they keep a photocopy. I have heard of one incident where the consulate here said they forwarded everything to Budapest and when the family got to Bp there were no forwarded documents so they had to show everything all over again!
Hungary: Travel Channel seeking US families/couples for new TV show!:
wow, I would love this. BUT my husband would not be able to get away from his work obligations. he works on project worldwide... and no not once in HU. I am hungarian. I have spent a few weeks in HU. I don't think I am what the show would be looking for... I am first generation American. Oh, but to get to live in HU. that would be amazing...
Hungary: Advantages/disadvantages Dual citizenship:
I would love to hear these answers as well. I would guess that you would not be taxed if you were not working in HU. I would think you would establish a residence and then get health insurance locally? not really sure... who has actually done this?
Hungary: cheaper flights:
I remember someone posting about cheaper flights. just wanted to talk about flying. what airlines. how much time is adequate to allow for layovers. I have seen as little as 1 hour for a layover at a very busy airport ex: Frankfurt or Heathrow. I got lost the last time I was in Frankfurt. can't imagine that being enough time. I hear Munich is a better airport. I have never been to Heathrow, but I imagine it's as bad as Frankfurt. also, the thought crossed my mind... courier sorts of jobs? how could I find a job that could make us of my flying back and forth between Bud and US? ideas?
Hungary: Immigration laws for "purebread" Hungarian-American:
I actually emailed the hungarina consulate here in the states. they ask you to provide a direct relatives birth certificate who was born in hungary before in 1921. so if that turns out to be your dad/mom or grandma/grandpa. also marriage license between said couple and any additional sets of these if the generation is farther back. I don't know about the language requirement as I do speak hungarian fluently. pretty sure you should speak basic hungarian. I took a course in Debrecen at the Kossuth Lajos Tudomanyi Egyetem and it was awesome. I would recommend it! immersion always works better for language learning.
Hungary: Debrecen good place to live?:
I was there once for a two week language class at the KLTE university. Kossuth Lajos Tudomanyi Egyetem. I remember there being a nice outdoor pool area nearby. I had a good time during my brief visit.
Hungary: How long is a type D visa good for?:
ok, I also wondered about the whole banking issue. I thought it would be simpler to leave my savings in a US bank and then use a debit card to access the funds. that way I don't have to get an international check... or fill out paperwork because suddenly the government wants to track my actions because they deem them as suspicious... I just remember some law about if you take out a sum of money that exceeds 10,000 then you have to fill out special forms at the bank for the government.
Hungary: Can 2 Adults live in Hungary on 2000 USD net take home a month?:
