Saint Lucia: Pets:
"A",
Do you live on the Island now or are you trying to move there?
Saint Lucia: at the start:
I agree with Bobby assessment of the Island and its people. My family and have just rented a home in Coubaril and we went through Blue Reef, just as Bobby suggested. Ask for Donelly if you call them to ask for help in that regard.....He was simply outstanding.
Not sure where you are coming from, but you're not like to find more friendly, out going, helpful people. We're from the southeastern US, known for its friendly people and we were blown away by how much people in SL go the extra mile to make sure you're helped in every way possible.
The cost of living is just slightly higher than the US......Food and gas being the difference. Food is close, but higher and I think gas is around seven per gal USD, but everything is very close, so there's not a lot of driving around.
The side roads are in dis-repair but the main roads are in pretty good shape. The temps are constant 76-85, but I'm told the summers are very humid and can feel like 95-100 at its peak.
Bobby is the best source for info and help, but if I can help you in anyway, let me know. We'll be there permanently beginning December 18th.
Joey
Saint Lucia: Cost of one shipping container from US to STL:
I understand your dining room table desire for your large family. I also have a large family and have experienced the same challenges of getting everyone around the table.
Bobbyvee can expand...but I don't think "estate sales" are common in St. Lucia. Have you or anyone in your family ever visited St. Lucia?
Saint Lucia: Antique Furniture Stores:
Are there reasonably priced antique furniture or even used furniture stores on the island?
Saint Lucia: Ease of Renting a Home:
Is renting a home as simple as signing the rental agreement, and paying your money? or is there some waiting period, etc.?
Thanks.
Saint Lucia: Importing Dog:
I have a list of requirements for importing my dog to St. Lucia, however, there is one area that is unclear and is even contradictory on several sites. So here's the question -- once the dog has it's rabies titre blood test showing the approved level, does the dog have to wait a period of time (some sites say 3 months, others 6 months, and others don't mention a wait period) before being allowed in the country? If there is a wait time, what is the purpose of the waiting period if your dog has a good health certificate, rabies vaccine level is correct, and the Vet Import Permit is complete? I'm just not understanding this "waiting period" or if there is actually one at all. Please advise.
Saint Lucia: Work VISA Applications:
St Lucia work VISA applications require a police record from country where applicant last resided. I called my local sheriff's office and they told me they only give records for the state we live in. Is this sufficient for St. Lucia, or is there a way to get a USA national police record report run? Any one with experience in this please advise.
Also, do they require a letter from the USA's IRS office stating you have filed and paid your taxes current?
Thanks for your help!!
Saint Lucia: Driver's License:
I understand the following (with questions) for obtaining a St. Lucia (SL) driver's license:
1. Cost is 55 ECD/20.37 USD every 3 months. Can you pay for a year at a time or just 3 months at a time? Are lines long for paying this once you've received your initial license?
HOW LONG does it take to be approved for your license? In other words if I go to the office on Monday, do I receive the license during that visit if all paperwork is complete, or is there a waiting period?
2. A medical certificate from doctor is required. Is this required for all ages? Can we get this letter from our home country doctor, or must it be a doctor in SL? Are doctors easily available for these certificates in SL if we wait until we arrive?
3. A letter is required from your Auto Insurance Company listing any claims. What if a claim is on the letter? Does this prevent one from obtaining a license?
4. "Just visiting" the island....can one rent a vehicle on their home land's license for their stay?
5. Are vehicles "registered" as they are in the States? If so, are these additional fees, etc.?
Am I missing anything else I should know in simply being legal to drive?
Saint Lucia: Licensing for Selling Personal Art and Handmade Items??:
Anyone know if a license is required to sell personal art and handmade items? I assume the Castries market is for locals only and an American expat would not be welcome? Is there a place an American expat could set up to sell their work? safely? or are their consignment shops for such items? Thanks for allowing me to pick your brains. : )
Saint Lucia: Vehicle Prices in St Lucia:
Can anyone give some current examples of new and used vehicle prices? I am thinking Jeep since I understand many of the roads are rough, but open to other vehicle suggestions from those of you who know. And used vehicles? are they easy to purchase? some countries they are a nightmare due to fines attached to the car itself instead of the owner.
