Bulgaria: Just Moved to Varna Centre:
Hey Craig,
I have an apartment a few blocks from the train station. From the US,, been in Varna since early Nov,, also have an Apt in Constanta. If you want to grab a beer, I'll gladly tell you everything I know about Varna...should take about 5 minutes!

Bulgaria: Moving to Bulgaria:
Hey Jim and Jackie,
I have an apartment in Constanta Romania, and am about to sign a lease for one in Varna as well. Varna has slightly (a couple of degrees) warmer weather, and is a lot more of a city than Constanta. Don't worry...lots of farm land everywhere. I would start by saying Wikipedia all your questions, follow all the links, and you will learn everything you need to know. Also, to compare cost of living , crime levels, etc, go to Numbeo.com. Reasonably accurate. After all that, you can ask specifics, like shipping cars, insurance, medical, driving in Bulgaria (not the most fun you could have!) lawyers, real estate agents, the people and customs, etc.
Good luck...hope this helps!
Portugal: Importing Car:
In Lagos now...Picking up my car in Rotterdam in about 10 days. Found cheapest is Newark to Rotterdam. Many shippers, just google. Long learning curve, eg. roro car empty, with possessions, container...40 ft shared is cheapest. 3rd party Liabilty insurance with no residence is the hard part. Visiting Alpop (this site) in Portimao Monday to seek help. Can get tourist coverage for 15 days in Holland...not enough obviously. Then heading to Black Sea, and will get longer coverage there hopefully. Good luck! For me too!!
Colombia: Maybe moving to MED COL:
Didn't want to leave you hangin...everybody seems to be caught up in an internal squabble. But I too speak gibberish, with profane as my second language! My Sasla and Spanish both suck but I'm working on them. I'll be arriving 1st part of May and would be happy to meet somewhere for a beer. Starting up a business based on what people have said here sounds a little tough, but I guess like anything, it's possible if you work hard enough at it. The web does offer a lot of possibilities, obviously. I did work for DVD so try to be kind!
Still getting royalties? What's the name of your book?
Colombia: Cali Rentals:
Right here Diego...looking over your shoulder.
Colombia: Need spanish translator in Bogota:
Maybe another good one to consider is Jibbigo, I have a 4s and two versions of Jibbigo. Both are speak or type, one is free but will work only if you have a wifi connection. The other is a download to your phone so it is a stand alone translator called Jibbigo Es. I think it costs like $6 and as I recall about 5mb. So if you're deep in the jungle, or high on a mountain, you can wax poetic to your dream girl without wifi. Whether you should or not...
Colombia: An apartment or a casa, old or new?:
I wanted to respond, but didn't know where to start. Supply and demand is everything in Real Estate...world over. Construction costs (labor and material) can affect new, and after a time, drag older properties along. As to why so few new houses in Medellin, there are not many houses in downtown Manhattan, either, because of lack of inexpensive land. Taking generalized averages as you have done, may not be all that effective because it doesn't take into account all the countless variables, eg. condition, amenities, view, location, tax and regulatory variables, local customary lifestyles, population age, crime, etc. Kind of apples and oranges. Within a statistic, you have to get rid of as many variables as possible so you can compare apples to apples. I do appreciate all the hard work you did, and it is an excellent starting point, so selecting Poblado was a big one. But the why of it, keeps coming back to supply and demand. What the largest group of buyers want (new, old, amenities, house, condo) vs the supply of same. Prices move when there is an imbalance. The free market field will always eventually level out. Worldwide, undervalued properties relative to the rest of the world, might suddenly start popping when discovered ...sometimes takes years. When you add in currency fluctuations, world events, and other macro factors...well your head can explode! Bottom line...you got to live somewhere so buy what you like, and hope that the market likes your choice, and everybody's tastes don't suddenly change!
Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing!

Jeez Diego...ease up!!! I think you've employed just about every thinking error possible! Over generalization, mental filtering, black and white thinking, jumping to conclusions, magnification, emotional reasoning and a few others!
Maybe you're so old that you forgot how desperately our hormones steel us against the idiosyncrasies of our women. And don't forget, they have to put up with our crap!
So take your meds, get a good night's sleep, have a cocktail, and look on the bright side of life! All the tough guys I know like their women the way they are. Except maybe when Aunt Flow arrives, then we just have to accept our fate and leave the house. And you probably don't really mean that "swing on you" comment, do you? You'll never get laid if you keep talking like that! Or maybe you just aren't attracted to women...each to his own! Best wishes!

Colombia: single mother epidemic:
I swore I was not going to play, I was going to be strong, and not get sucked in. Crap! But I'll be brief. Che...I probably support 98% of what you've written and so do a few others here, so you're wrong on that one. Also, I did not know you are an angry black woman! Didn't pick that up. Aconcepts how did you determine that? Clearly, I need a better crystal ball. I was called a woman, cry baby, gay, lesbian, transvestite (weird combo!), hairless Ken doll, moron, idiot, enabler, brain washed fool...and more! From Diego, who I've never met. Of course, I'm none of those. Just for yucks, let's just say I'm a six foot six, 245 lb former power forward, who could launch 'em from beyond the arc, but preferred to take it to the hole and bang bodies with the big boys. Now two questions: do you suppose Diego would say those things to my face? And two, how long do you think he would live if he actually had a pair that large? Takin' bets and givin' odds!!
Point is, it's not about censorship, other than the self-censorship that each person exercises in face to face encounters in order not to die before their time. It's not about ideas, those are exchanged and bantered about in any open discussion. But personal angry overgeneralized vitriol is not "sharing ideas." It's just noise. Sure there might be elements of truth. But I guarantee any argument that starts out..."Let me tell you what's wrong with the blacks. They all..." will follow with inane, half baked, asinine nonsense. Now substitute women, Colombians, gays, conservatives, liberals, teens, Chinese, or anyone else for black and the same will be true. I'm reading up on what's termed confirmation bias. Very interesting how many people form their beliefs and then sort all the fact before them, literally not seeing any other than those that support their already held beliefs. Used to be called filtering, but now there's some big words for it! Kind of knew the principle, but didn't realize that some people literally skip over the disagreeing facts...literally cannot see them! I guess that explains a lot.
Anyway...really best wishes to everyone...even Diego...I'd rather party than fight. Did enough of that to last a lifetime!
