Costa Rica: Where to live/avoid for asthmatics:
Many areas in CR are good for people with asthma and many are not.The north pacific area is generally drier and hotter. Generally speaking volcanoes areas should probably be avoided. Garcia is nice as is atenas. I would suggest doing some sightseeing first. Also visit the Nicola peninsula area. As every person is different visits are a must. As for the rumored dust mite issue, this is the first I heard of it and suspect cleaning has something to do with it.
Costa Rica: Rental- Spring 20115:
You should get specifics on barely to see if that is what you want.
Costa Rica: Banking in Costa Rica:
Capital one. They have been great. When I withdraw in colonels they give me a great exchange rate also.I always use bur ATM though. Some of the others do charge you a fee.
Costa Rica: Finding a US Financial Institution that takes Expats:
Interactive brokers. You can set them up to do direct transfers to multiple bank accounts also. I am an aria and I use them for all my international clients.
Costa Rica: "Costa Rica is 20 percent more expensive than other Latin American countries":
I agree. There are way more benefits to Costa Rica than mere cost. If you are only price conscious the I here Ecuador is good. Of course in CR I can go to the grocery store and pay in dollars in a pinch.everyone is used to tolerating and or befriending expats.traveling to and staying in CR is best money ever spent
Costa Rica: Flights from California to CR:
Look at spirit. I use them. They are about half everyone else.
Costa Rica: San Vito area:
Agreed, most people go to the canal zone in Panama city area for those kinds of goods. Much cheaper. Southern CR is very remote and there is plenty of nature.
Costa Rica: Using the buses:
Highly recommend not using vamos.their cars have a propensity to magically get flats 1 km from their rental center at the airport location outside the airport. Happened to me and a tics I was with called the police. Apparently that is a great way to rob people. Since that time I used europcar. Not the cheapest but they pickup and drop off. A cabbie hit my landcruiser rental and I had the insurance. They looked at it took the keys and said see you next trip.
Costa Rica: costa rica:
Agreed, more expats means more expensive. For more expensive you do get more amenities that are desired by expats like larger living space, ac, pool, etc. If you do not want those things it is advisable to not live in an area where expats proliferate. There are many areas with both.
Costa Rica: Living in a Grecia:
I laugh at all of this "it is too hot in atenas" nonsense. Being from Texas I have wear a jacket every evening and in the daytime it is perfect. I suppose if you were from Montana or some such northern climate it may be warm but to say it is hot is ludicrous.
