United Kingdom: Voluntary move from the US to the UK:
I am doing the same, but not with my company. I would assume they are paying for the HSMP visa, if not, they should.
Also I am in financial services and work with expats so in addition to looking at HSBC think about Lloyds offshore as well - doing it pre-departure is the best
United Kingdom: HSMP visa:
I recevied a HSMP visa and entry clearance and will be moving to London in a few months.
I was accepted on my second try, even though I qualified...they are very nitpicky and most of their rules don't make sense (remember the people reviewing this docs probably would not qualify for this program).
I would not pay to have a lawyer do the application (and a good lawyer will only take an app they think will make it), I did however do a consultation with a immigration service/lawyer (ASG immigration) and it was very, very helpful and they went beyond the hsmp if you are interested in living in the UK a bit longer.
There is also a hsmp community and the forums were very hellpful with people sharing their examples of successful apps and docs and their share of experiences
United Kingdom: International Employment Agencies:
Tyler,
I am facing the same dilema. Check the HSMP (Highly skilled Migrant Programme) in the UK - check the UK consulate/embassy, you get a work permit for one year, and do not have to have a job first, and this gives you permission to work. Downside is that it apparently takes a long time to get this work permit, but I think it is a good deal. It is on a points system..
Do a search on yahoo to see some of the agencies that help can help your chances for applying for the programme...they also work with sponsors and partners.
Also, don't stop trying to get an expat assignment. You never know.
Good luck
