Ecuador Welcome Forum: True Facts of New Visas?:
Thanks much for the link to that info.
And the thing i wonder about in there, is the part requiring all who enter as tourist ,to have public or private health insurance for the duration of the stay.
Ecuador Welcome Forum: Tourist visa stay.:
Hi there.
Was wondering how the granted tourist stay works for multiple entries. Spreading the standard 90 day stay out over 123 days with the extra time spent in Peru.
I know i am only allowed 90 days but i am coming with a round trip that departs Ecuador 123 days after arrival.
My plan is to spend the extra time in Peru and come back to Ecuador with enough tourist stay time left to catch my flight out,
I know things change, but i just looked up the tourist entry terms on the consulate website and other web sites. It seems i can come for the 90 days granted without a visa before arrival on a US passport, and that i can also apply for an extension while there..
But then it says if you plan on staying more than 90 days, you should apply for a visa before coming. So it seems a bit confusing.
I plan to stay 90 days only but also to spread it out over a 4 month period with the extra time spent in Peru. Maybe 60 days in Ecuador and then 33 days in Peru with the final 30 days in Ecuador.
My plan means i am assuming that they will allow me to stay for 60 days, exit to Peru for 33 days or more and then return to Ecuador for another 30 days, for a total on 90 days in the year.
Also i am asking if it is possible to come with a 4 month gapped round trip ticket, get the standard 90 days and get an extension for another 33 days or more. All without hassle that my ticket was booked as a 123 gap in the round trip.
Does anyone with direct experience in this situation have any personal experience to share? Thanks much.
Ecuador Welcome Forum: Expats to Mexico?:
I am in Mexico and on the way to Ecuador.
Weather is the reason i split my time.
Winter in Mexico is great on the beaches. From December through March. Heat comes back by end of april. So i go back to USA by then and try to make Ecuador by June after tending to business in USA.
Also if you are too far north in Mexico, it is actually cold in winter. Also if too far south in Mexico, it can remain hot in winter but not sweltering like summer.
So i plan to spend the summer in Ecuador and winter in Mexico.
Not a full time expat. Still keep my business and home in USA.
The Mexican Peso has also dropped in value making life cheap for US$ earners from North of the border. Mexico is cheaper than ever in that sense.
You can't beat the commerce options here either wether as a buyer or seller. So many options that make it feel like a good mix of both worlds.
Also the new white house USA has mexico in a squeeze that is pushing the currency of mexico against gaining strength. They are expecting losses in USA industry based here.
Not sure how expensive Ecuador is but i have been there before while i was staying in Peru and know i can afford life in Ecuador.
I choose Ecuador as the best option for Fresh air locations with great summer temperatures, affordable and not such a long or expensive flight.
Mexico has all the same options during the winter. Also life has been so easy here because i drove my car across and all cleared for the 6 month stay. And even so, i drive it barely 200 miles a month and only one long roadtrip 4 hour drive one way , next month to see other nice areas.
Lots of options for places to live in Mexico and the danger here is particular to regions and even so it is barely an issue for expats/tourists when you see less expats/tourist per million are affected by it all than they are per million in USA.
Mexico is cheaper now because of the peso drop and it looks like it may last with the new USA whitehouse.
Looking forward to Ecuador in the summer and will be happy to return to mexico by winter.
Mexico: Living in/around Sayulita:
No reply here in a while.... In and around Sayulita is the backwards approach..
Sayulita is part of being In and around Puerto Vallarta... So Sayulita would be a small beach town tucked into a nice cove, slow simple life and a haven for Canadians in the know... Sayulita can be more expensive than puerto Vallarta or cheaper, it depends on what you go for in terms of available options...
Sayulita can be slim pickings when the high season is in, but with time you can negotiate for a long term good deal nice location..
Puerto vallarta is also a nice option and not too expensive unless you want it to be, they have 5 star resorts or little shacks for cheaper..
Use Craig's list examples for a price range, go to Craigslist Puerto Vallarta and get a view of places and prices.. Winter listings are higher $ than summer time.. So make your long term choice in the summer low season when more vacancies are there...
It can be around $400 for decent 1 bedroom or studio efficiency with basic furnishings and livable comfort all inclusive.... Location preference is best learned walking the streets and knowing the area in person....
If you want to be frugal, you can get places for less than $400 a month, $300 is possible while not being too far into the Mexican peoples average lifestyle... Even cheaper if you dont mind adapting to living out of the tourist areas among the locals..
Sayulita is not just right outside of Puerto Vallarta, it takes a little bit of driving or bus riding to get there from PV but its the closest beach town hideaway from PV...
So place Sayulita prices at PV prices and thats a good start... The real deal options are out there but you have to get in there and mingle and make the move when the winter crowd isn't filling every niche up with their willingness to pay the premium...
Thailand: Thailand - New Rules for tourists who overstay visas:
Wow, i was last there in 2011 when they had the big flooding throughout the country's central river flood plain.. 9 hours on the bus from chiang mai to bangkok, and nothng but an inland sea all the way with nothing but trees and roofs sticking above water in many places...
Any way it looks like the 30 day visa waiver now grants opportunity to extend for another 30 days only, but a 7 days will be granted if the 30days is denied for any reason. 7 days to work out an exit..
Before, it was 30 days and exit, or have a pre-entry visa for 60 days and then another 30 could be granted on that..
I am too young to qualify retirement visa, but i do have the income part met.. I enjoyed thailand for 30 days and was so nice, big relief compared to the 1.5 years in philippines.. But not as easy to stay long term in Thailand.. They are busting at the seams with tourist there, but also with money now..
Makes sense to sell an extra 30 days to visa waiver tourist, there are a lot more of that category of entries and many of them would pay up to extend 30days rather than run the border gambit every 2 weeks....
I will be back there... Been preoccupied with central and south america since 2012.. Peru,Ecuador, Panama, Costarica,Nicaragua, Honduras... And too much time in philippines and the damage is still not gone after 3 years away from there...
Thailand is still the tops of my list among the cheaper countries, just not as easy to get long term stay...
Maybe after more visits in Mexico and Ecuador this year, i can come to thailand again next year and do a minimum of 90 days for it to be worth the money spending to go there.. Spend half of what i do in the US ~for thailand living and after 90 days, that adds up to more saved than i would spend flying to Thailand...
