Colombia: Expats who returned to US or Canada:

Capurgana is a lovely spot. They have to clear the cattle from the runway before you land! There are launches that do day tours of Las Islas San Blas on the Panamanian side. Sapzurro is a nice hideaway for the sailors.

Colombia: Thinking of moving to Colombia:

Heard this guy, http://www.drjoemacinnis.com on public radio say there is zero evidence of harm from GMOs. He has no agenda. Consuming too many calories and a sedentary lifestyle are the main causes of obesity.

Colombia: Bucaramanga:

Near the equator temperature is usually a function of elevation. Elevationmap.net lists Bucara at just under 3200' almost 2,000' lower than Medellin. I'm sure your impressions were warranted. I did visit once and it seemed to have a drier than average climate according to the vegetation in the countryside.

Colombia: Mail/Package service in Pereira? Armenia?:

Is the MBE store locator really accurate? It seems you can enter any pueblo, no matter how small, and find an MBE location. Hmm...

Colombia: Cafetero:

Regarding accommodations in the smaller towns. I can state from experience in the small (reputedly 5,000 including the surrounding fincas) town where we keep an apartment that you will almost never see a "for rent" sign. The people just know. My spouse's family have moved at least 4 times during my three years there. We've had the same apartment for over two years now. We were walking by and my lady pointed up at the second floor apt and said it's for rent. The next day we were moving in. There's plenty of turnover. We were lucky to get such a nice place so easily. There are plenty of street front ground floor places that I would not tolerate unless there was a nice backyard garden included. The thing is you need a local contact in these places to find out what is available. No one is expecting to rent to outsiders so they don't advertise. Word of mouth suffices in these places.

Colombia: Airport Exit Fees Bogota El Dorado:

Over the past year or two most airlines have eliminated the need to check at the Aeronautica Civil wickets.

Colombia: Problems at Customs with a Return Flight Booked Over 90 Days?:

I seriously doubt that they will check your return date. When you enter all you usually get is a very congenial "Welcome to Colombia". Just don't mention the job search. Your a tourist eager to explore the country! To be on the safe side book a separate full fare flight out of the country before the 90 day limit. Cancel it at first opportunity and get your refund.

Colombia: Banking Options:

For what it's worth I understand that Servibanca as just recently upped the transaction fee for withdrawals at their ATMs to 40,000 pesos. If it weren't for their 780,000 withdrawal limit I'd stay clear. Are there better options available?

Colombia: Filandia vs Armenia redux:

There are many of us who prefer the dinky little towns. There's a store on every corner. Mom and pop are alive and well. The prices are actually cheaper than what you find in the malls in the larger cities. If you want Lowes, Home Depot etc why leave your home country in the first place? Small town Colombia is food for the soul. Materialism/rat race is obviously your thing. Enjoy.

Colombia: What you like and don't like in Medellin:

LOL the nail.
