Notarios are not especially smart or honest I have seen some that are corrupt. They are above an attorney and are appointed by the Govenor of the state they practice in. All Bank Trust must go thru them. Make sure your realtor is a current member of AMPI.

WARNING!!!!!! Be careful on what you are about to do. From what it sounds like you are not very sharp on Mexico laws or customs. There is a major difference between a NOTARIO (MX) and a NOTARY (USA). And what about an APOSTILE ?? My suggestion is to get some legal counseling before you do all this .

My wife and I recently returned from Merida, it was perfect. The most important thing is to 1.) stay in the historical district and 2.) be there for the weekend.
