Philippines: bringing the kids over?:
dj - there are plenty of good girls over here with kids. Just pick one from the province, works at a factory, amll, etc...meet the family and give her a better life in USA. Don't leave the kids in Phils, that would be heartbreaking. My 2 cents :)
Philippines: Visiting Visa:
30 days then a small fee to extend. You need a return ticket receipt out of Phils too. It's a great place to visit you'll be fine and love it here. The people are very warm.
Philippines: Travel help ???:
I hope chance didn't sugarcoat everything :)
If you've never been here, do your research first - what island of the 7000 interests you most?
Stay in a nice hotel. Don't arrive in Manila late at night. Don't meet anybody online LOL.
Thats a good start.
Philippines: hotel in Lapu Lapu city/housing:
Art - you say you have people here in Phils. Yet why are you posting online for room help? Who are they exactly and how did you meet them?
Just google "lapu-lapu hotels" and you can find every price range right there.
My advice, stay at the Shangri La Mactan, it's close to the airport and they will watch for your safety.
Philippines: "Show Money":
jgarrison:
Thank you, Nephi. I feel like she is telling the truth but don't feel like I should send money to someone I haven't yet met in person. Especially not a couple of thousand dollars.
jgarrison - i hope your joking.
you can spend 6 months online chatting and skyping with these girls, they are all going to tell you the same thing - they are god-fearing, honest, loyal, etc...you are great, handsome, etc...they love you, yada yada ya...
get off the internet and spend a measly $1000 USD for a round trip ticket - spend 2 weeks here and meet 2 girls a day at the mall.
until then, don't even send anyone your name, address, photos or any personal information.
where in texas are you from BTW?
Philippines: Beware of this:
I'd much rather deal with the issues here than if I was living in Baltimore, Oakland, Chicago, LA, etc...
But then again, I don't go to Manila, I stay in the province or Cebu area.
Why come halfway across the world to live in Manila?
I agree with ASLN 4-5 posts above.
Philippines: Dengue in Bohol:
I'm sure this topic has been brought up before, thanks in advance for your help.
Do I need to worry about Dengue if I visit Panglao or Dauis on Bohol? There are no mosquitos where I live, but when I go camping in the summer near lakes and water, I get bit about 20 times more than my friends.
Anything I can do to prevent besides long shirts, pants, and Deet? If that's the case, I'm thinking, why even go there?

Philippines: Should I buy a used or new car?:
As soon as you drive that new car off the lot you will lose 20% of it's value. And when you get your first "dings" it doesn't feel that new anymore. Toyota's are comfy, good on gas, reliable and easy to fix. Buy a used Toyota for sure...my 2 cents. Unless money is no object ;)
Philippines: Dumaguete- where to stay?:
What is the breakdown of "foreigners" in Dumaguete by country?
Philippines: For Cebu, better to stop in Hong Kong or Manila?:
Hi All, a travel question, I've never been to Phils, I've been told to avoid MNL airport if possible. I'm coming from Taipei after a week long business trip and will be staying in Cebu. I won't be visiting Manila.
I have a U.S. passport. For Cebu, I can stop in either Hong Kong or Manila, those are my only two choices.
I can take Cebu Pacific or Phil Air or Eva and stop in Manila or take Cathay or Dragon Air or whoever and stop in Hong Kong.
The HK routing takes an extra hour or so, I don't mind - is it worth it to avoid arrival in MNL?
Or do I bypass immigration at MNL because I'm switching planes and go through immigration at Cebu?
I'm assuming it's easier just to enter Phils from Cebu?
Cheers,
