Ambit Energy is based on a multi-level marketing business model. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multi-level_marketing A quick web search uncovers some upset customers who watched their electricity bills double each month after agreeing to use Ambit Energy. https://www.complaintsboard.com/complaints/ambit-energy-mcallen-texas-c134284.html There are several warning signs, so proceed with caution. https://barenakedscam.com/ambit-energy

Philippines: Why are the Philippines so poor?:

"Why are the Philippines so poor?"...complex question. First, decide if the country is really poor or if the country has sufficient wealth which has become too scarce amongst too great a percent of the population. Second, once you realize that the Philippines has sufficient wealth, then re-examine your original question in a new light. "Why does country-x, in this case, the Philippines, have y-percentage of people with less than the desired standard of living?" The following link talks about causes of poverty in general and links to a variety of other sources. http://www.globalissues.org/issue/2/causes-of-poverty The following link leads to a paper written in 2007 examining the Philippines specifically and its decline in global position from the first part of the 20th century. http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=6&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwi-s73Y08vSAhWqZpoKHfxLDNAQFghEMAU&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.econ.upd.edu.ph%2Fdp%2Findex.php%2Fdp%2Farticle%2Fdownload%2F71%2F63&usg=AFQjCNHZnDW2XIrKfCFzdvqhjfvCOD9hmA

Philippines: NY Times nice article about the Phils:

TrappedInHell, So your argument seems to be "the ends justify the means". That is, since a strong method lacking due process seems to be effective and works quickly, it is a superior method to one which involves due process and under which the number of drug users and drug trade has increased over time. Is that a fair assessment of your position?

Philippines: Trusting Filipina wives/girlfriends:

DukeStamina, Any suggestions on how we can remind people, "Some percentage of the incredibly poor will steal, lie, and cheat to secure a better financial position", without maligning all the remaining percentage of incredibly poor people who are honest, despite their greater need? (FYI....I know it is not just the incredibly poor who may steal or be honest.) Stereotyping is inherently problematic, so you are correct that the people one meets should be known for their own, individual, strengths and weaknesses. It is difficult to give warnings of things if we cannot use generalizations. We cannot list the names of only the individuals with which we have had problems. Perhaps we could just be careful not to say "Filipinas this.... or Filipinos that.....", but instead say, "I have heard on more than one occassion of a person here who blah, blah, blah.....".

Philippines: Filipina's priorities:

[one person's opinion...] Age does not equate to maturity, Often an older person is more mature, but sometimes humans never develop past a self-centered mindset. Even in the West, I would argue that people understand that self-centered people have not fully matured. Before I had children, I knew that having kids would result in my own growth. Understanding service to others brings maturity or reflects a higher level of maturity. Service to the point of sacrifice indicates an even higher level.

If I understood you correctly, she was discharged on 17 Nov. and has 2 months to repay 18000 pesos. Of course, she cannot do this. So you will soon start hearing about how her guarantor will be so upset with her if she does not pay the 18k. Perhaps he will threaten something. Expect the soap opera to continue.

Norway: U.S. Estate Tax for Non-Resident, Foreign Spouse:

It has just come to my attention that the U.S. will severly tax my estate before my non-resident, foreign wife receives any of the inheritance. Is there a way to legally reduce the amount of estate tax which is owed? Is there a company in Norway which works with U.S. estate taxes?

Philippines: Foreign spouse as a beneficiary for estate planning:

I am interested in the response to your question. I see on the IRS website that the foreign, non-resident spouse may need to file regarding the inherited estate, but I also see that they may get a standard deduction and not have to pay anything until a fairly high threshold is passed. I think the basic marital deduction is for 5.45 million U.S. dollars. https://www.irs.gov/individuals/international-taxpayers/some-nonresidents-with-u-s-assets-must-file-estate-tax-returns

Philippines: US INCOME TAX RETURN:

I have lived outside of the U.S. since 1998 and work for a non-U.S. company. I file as "Head of Household" and when I once sent in my tax return without listing an ITIN for my Filipina wife, my tax return was returned with a request for her ITIN. So I guess it is required. On the IRS website it says the following... Who needs an ITIN? IRS issues ITINs to foreign nationals and others who have federal tax reporting or filing requirements and do not qualify for SSNs. A non-resident alien individual not eligible for a SSN who is required to file a U.S. tax return only to claim a refund of tax under the provisions of a U.S. tax treaty needs an ITIN. Other examples of individuals who need ITINs include: • A nonresident alien required to file a U.S. tax return • A U.S. resident alien (based on days present in the United States) filing a U.S. tax return • A dependent or spouse of a U.S. citizen/resident alien • A dependent or spouse of a nonresident alien visa holder https://www.irs.gov/individuals/general-itin-information?_ga=1.14389111.1309509068.1479115181
