Colombia: Driving to Colombia:

My neighbors just drove down from Alaska and I am living in Bolivia right now. They drove all the way with the exception of Panama to Ecuador when they had to ferry their boat, which at the time they wanted to cross was not going into Colombia. They had to ferry it into Florida and then into Colombia. They were upset at the costs and extra charges this caused them. Soon they plan to travel on to the tip of South America. Their vehicle is an older one and they even travel with their dog without too many problems since they are not taking up permanent residency in any of the countries. They traveled through Mexico during the time when the American soldier was captive. They entered near LA and came on down. No problems driving down at all and visited all the Central countries but El Salvador. If you would like you can PM me with your email address and they would love to share with you their adventure driving. Though it would be probably much cheaper to just sell it and purchase one upon arrival.

United States: Expat Health Insurance:

You asked regarding Expat Health Insurance. I found that I can use Christian Healthcare Ministries here in Bolivia for a fraction of anything else. I have a deductible for the year of $500, all other fees are covered. I purchased the Gold plan at $150 per month for me. The hospital here worked with me and the check is sent to your US address and they you pay the hospital, etc directly within 6 -8 weeks. I have not regretted getting this coverage. If you are interested you can find them online at http://www.chministries.org. They do not advertise so when a member refers another person to them they do give recognize that and give you a month payment for that. If you do my member #233554

United States: Senior Moving to the States:

While ObamaCare is so wrong in every way there are inexpensive alternatives. I have Christian HealthCare Ministries type of insurance and it cost me $150 for myself and the same for my daughter per month with only a $500 per year deductible. You and your doctor control the type of care you need and not someone else. I have been very happy with it and it complies with the statutes set up by what you need for coverage. I have the insurance and live out of the country and most everyone else live in the USA with no problems. The testimonies are wonderful. If you get the insurance remember me #223554 is my number and when someone signs up you get a unit credited the next month. Living on Social Security this insurance has been the best thing for me as my daughter has high medical needs. Living in the States under Medicaid I felt they put her through so much unnecessary medical treatments. A human guinea pig if you would. Now she is healthier than she ever has been even though she has all types of problems. You may contact me and I would share more with you if you desire. ObamaCare is horrible and the rates keep going up as my friends have all complained about it. My rates as all others on CHMInistries have remained the same. I have the gold plan of the $150 per month there are 2 other less expensive plans that you could choose from. So moving back to the States should not have to be a nightmare for insurance reasons.

Colombia: DHL, FedEx or other...:

okay, you mentioned scanning the tax papers and I am thinking your 1040 and State and having a friend printing them out. How is that going to work for your signature that is required? I am retired and have never been out of the country before this year and need to get them sent in as I tried using TurboTax online but because I only have Social Security they said I have no income and could not send it in online this time. Even paid the lying company the$29.95 for them to tell me they do not send them in when income is zero. Could you or anyone help me on what to do. Thanks a bunch.

Colombia: Document Translator Needed:

Have almost all of my documents needed here in the states. However; I am coming up with no real leads on reputable English to Spanish translators that are not extremely expensive. Any real leads plus your experience with them greatly appreciated. Thanks would love to be down there before end of March.

Guatemala: Social Security could cease if I moveTo Guatemala:

WHAT has anyone heard of this? I was just on the phone with SocSec inquiring how to get letter of my monthly retirement Apostilles or whatever needed to be done to move down to Guatemala. Was told that I may lose my entitlement because of the country of choice, because not all countries are eligible. She is going to call me back. I have never seen anyone post on here having this type of trouble.

Guatemala: Share a ride with someone to Guatemala:

I am going to be moving to Guatemala late February or beginning of March and would love to find a ride through Mexico. I have a young daughter and really do not want to drive by myself and will leave my car here as it is older and not into chancing things these days. Will share cost for trip and provide for my own expenses. She has wheelchair plus luggage.

Colombia: Transfering Funds into Colombia:

Not a fan at all of Wells Fargo. Does anyone know of another more reputable.bank. ty

Bolivia: Bolivian Protests?:

I love it here in Bolivia. Moved here back in March and am convinced this is such a unique and wonderful place to live. I did not come to visit first but over several years kept my focus on this lovely country along with Guatemala. I am so glad I came here instead. You mentioned drugs and truthfully I can not even say that I have seen any. The crime is almost non existent.. The weather is ideal for those of us who enjoy a warmer climate. The only thing I can say is that I do regret is that most places to eat do not serve vegetables. I love my veggies and find them at the markets and eat more than I use to at home. It's still better than the States all the way around. The people are warm and friendly and very accepting to an older woman with an invalid child accompanying her. The taxi drivers are the best when it comes to getting her in and out, including transporting her wheelchair to boot.
