United Arab Emirates: teachers in Abu Dhabi:
I just seen ur post and thought of a reply as I have some LT friends who always talked about the experience. I think ther is. Cultural deference here in addition to the fact that kids are more naughty and wild maybe. Not in an insulting way thouigh, but maybe an exhausting one.
All came back with better experience in weeks time and developed great connection with kids though.
I definitely don't think it is that bad as you heard.
I will leave my email here, if u need more info or even need to be connected with some LTs around...

United Arab Emirates: Finding a job in UAE for software professionals:
Hi Sumaya
I guess, the job portals of UAE and many other countries here, are sinking within an ocean of applications flowing from West and East. which will make it harder to get proper responses.
My advice to you is to try the home pages of the proepect employers directly, which is not supposed to be easier, but at least not overloaded.
Where I work, we got 10,000 applications in 40 days for few posts advertised. so, wish you luck and dont give up :)

United Arab Emirates: Teaching in the public School:
Hello
Some of my friends are public school teachers in the three locations. and thier experiences are depending on what they are looking for! If you r looking to save more for example, them MZ is you option, cheap, no night life, no crazy spending and one basic mall. those who stays there are spending every weekend in Abu Dhabi, and sometimes commutes during the week for some activities i.e. Frisbee ...etc. and they are happy (So far!). and sure camping in the amazing desert there all the time :)
I second Mish for the rest ...
Guess you are here already by now, good luck :)

United Arab Emirates: Salary Advice & Opinions:
thats the average for teachers with not long experience, it worth asking about:
- Tickets
- Health Insurance
- Visa and residency Cards/papers Fees
the above sums to few few thousands per year, usually covered by employer, but make sure its documented.
140k should get you a decent 1 bedroom or studio apartment, after some drilling and mining for a vacant one.

United Arab Emirates: Looking at moving to Abu Dhabi for one year:
I guess it is suffecient ...
depends on your status and requirements, but for Bachelor, 10 to 14 K a month should be enough to cover the Accomodation part.
all in all, try to get the most out of the negotiation period. since it is going to be harder to get raises once you start.
