El Salvador: banks:

I saw three questions from you. 1. There are no US banks in ES. Only one bank. Banco ProAmerica will allow you to open an account if you are not a resident 2. All documents for residency use the apostille date. And yes. It is very difficult to coordinate them in the right time frame. 3. An NIT card is somewhat like a SS but you must have one to own property

El Salvador: Where to live:

I sent you a private message

El Salvador: moving to Santa Ana, need help.:

Hola and welcome to beautiful El Salvador! The rules for staying here, without temporary or permanent residency are that when you enter the country they will issue you a 90 day visa that is good for the CA4 countries (ES,Guat,Honduras and Nica) at the end of the 90 days you must leave for three days and then you can come back for another 90 days. You cannot just go into the CA 4 countries so Belize, Panama, Mexico etc count as leaving) You can pay 25.00 and get an extension but it is a long and tedious process. There is a very detailed thread on this forum regarding residency if you are interested in that, or perhaps your ministry has more info on how you can navigate staying here longer. I would avoid having your passport illegally validated. Not a good idea. I do not believe your US insurance will work here but I would check with your issuer. Enjoy your time in this lovely country

El Salvador: Moving used household goods:

Anyone have any experience bringing used household goods from the States for personal use? I have an opportunity to bring items from my USA home (kayak, lawnmower, mattress, blower, weedeater etc) for free but I will be responsible for the tax. I am wondering if the taxes will negate the value of bringing the items in. Nothing would have a FMV of over 500.00 and the FMV of the total load would be 1,000 to 1,500 dollars. Thanks in advance for the help!

El Salvador: Moving to El Salvadoror:

I live in the beach area of Sonsonate but I am not familiar with a Sonsonate beach proper. The beaches that I am familiar with are Dorado, Barra Salada,Barra Santiago, Los Cabanos, Acajutla, Metalio, Costa Azul etc. All of these beaches are different in landscape, access, sand etc. I can tell you that is area is very quiet, safe and somewhat rural. You can find areas that are good for little ones, but this is the Pacific so it can get rough at high tide. Los Cabanos is good for snorkeling. Hope this helps

El Salvador: Internet:

There is internet available. Tigo/Moviestar and Claro all have plans. I have Claro. Phone/basic cable and 10mg of data for 35.00 each month.

El Salvador: Playa El Espino, El Arco del Espino, Usulutan, El Salvador:

I do not know if there is an expat community in the area but I can tell you that as a general rule, the Usulatan area is not very safe. The beaches that you mention are very remote. Take a look at google maps. I can tell you that the main roads are the only roads in the area that would be considered passable. The others are most likely dirt and make for very difficult travel in the rainy season. I would highly suggest visiting that area before deciding to purchase property there and visit the local police station to ask about violent activity in the region. I looked at that area, but it was just too remote for me. Hope that helps
