Kuwait: anyone else worried?:
Don't go. More danger from Arabs who hate all foreigners and make life miserable for you than from war. Middle east is terrible place to live. I know. I was a visiting prof at universities in Oman and UAE. Money was good, everything else sucked. -- Don Hendon in USA
Saudi Arabia: Any single women living in Dhahran?:
Advice: Don't go. Stay in Australia. Of all middle eastern nations, Saudi is the worst. Women are treated very badly. I was a visiting professor at universities in Oman and UAE, much more progressive than Saudi, but even there, things were terrible. (I'm male.) Weather sucks, too. Money's good, though. Contact me at donald_hendon at yahoo dot com if you want to talk about it. I lived in Sydney as a visiting prof in the 1970s, and it's a wonderful place. Why on earth would you want to leave. By the way, most expat males seem to prefer the ever-abundant supply of Filipinas to western expat's. At least you won't have any competition from Saudi females in the dating game. If you go, remember what I wrote here. My words will always be in the back of your mind when you experience difficulties there, and you WILL. -- Donald Hendon, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA
Saudi Arabia: Possible job:
Don't go. The entire middle east sucks. And Saudi is the worst place there. I was a visiting professor at a university in the UAE, one of the so-called more progressive nations there, and I was treated like dirt. And I'm male with a PhD degree.
United States: german girl marries texan guy: Help!!:
You're a lucky girl. You don't need any help at all. I'm a proud native Texan (Laredo), and I always spell Texas with a CAPITAL T. T stands for terrific. Show this message to your fiance. He'll get a kick out of it (enjoy it). Hook em Horns, national champions in college football again finally. I'm a Univ of Texas graduate (1962 BBA) and 1971 PhD).
United Arab Emirates: Adequate Compensation Package?:
3200 US is not enough. 3200 dirhams is ridiculously low. don't go. UAE is also a lousy place to live. voice of experience. thank goodness i'm back home in USA. -- donald
United Arab Emirates: Moving to Dubai...young family:
My only suggestion: Don't go. UAE is a terrible place to live. In fact, the middle east is a terrible place. -- Donald Hendon
Saudi Arabia: Need Honest Advice:
two words of advice: don't go.
question: of all the nations in the middle east, why do you want to go to saudi, the worst of all nations there? the aue (best nation there) is bad enough, but why would you want to go to saudii? are you a glutton for punishment?
United Arab Emirates: Know anything about New Kalifa City?:
hi, kay, from donald in usa. i lived in al-ain, uae. taught at uae university (school of business). signed one-year contract. left after 1 semester. lousy place to live. this was my 2nd time in middle east. first time was at sultan qaboos univ in oman, also lousy experience. i know a few people at uae university who can befriend you when you go there. sorry to hear you're going there...it's a miserable place to live. in fact, the whole middle east is that way. uae is pretty safe, but that's because it's a tightly-controlled police state. contact me at donald436187@yahoo.com if you want to correspond about this. good luck, folks. -- donald
