Hi Jo, one thing i can answer: there are no taxes, which is good. As for the visa, you either need a job to get a visa or you marry your boyfriend and be on his visa, which is easier, but i understand that one wants a more romantic reason than a visa for marriage ;). I heard, that there is always a need for english teachers, but there is something called omanization, which means preferably omanis will be hired rather than expats, which makes it a bit difficult in some fields. What is you qualification anyway? Hm, actually i cannot answer so many of your questions, because all the insurance, bank and medical issues are provided through the company of my husband. My advice to you is contact the british embassy in muscat: http://www.britishembassy.gov.uk/servlet/Front?pagename=OpenMarket/Xcelerate/ShowPage&c=Page&cid=1025870055971 (don´t know why this is such a long link) and further sign up for an international health insurance in the UK. I think to open a bank account you need a job first and a salary certificate. For the beginning you can just use your credit card or cash card, which works on the cash-machines here. Hi Sigi, i recently moved to muscat with my husband and i am also german (from Kiel). I don´t know much about Muscat and i don´t have kids yet (just married) but i would be happy to help you out with anything or explore things together. I have to admit that i miss good old Germany.
